Dental Cutting With Diamond Burs: Heavy-Handed or Light-Touch?

Journal of Prosthodontics, 1999
PurposeThe cutting efficiency of diamond dental burs using different handpiece loads was evaluated against simulated enamel, a machinable glass ceramic (Macor).Materials and MethodsAn ultra‐high‐speed dental handpiece was mounted in a frictionless bearing so that the pressure applied at the contact interface between the dental bur and the cutting ...

The grinding efficiency of diamond burs

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1979
Deterioration of round diamond burs during 8 minutes of operation was found to be more pronounced for burs with low particle densities than for burs with high particle density. No definitive relationship was found between the initial grinding rate and initial particle density.

Diamond Burring and Surgical Keratectomy

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1988
We compared the effects of diamond burring keratectomy (DBK) and surgical superficial lamellar keratectomy (SLK) on the rabbit corneal epithelial healing rate and corneal morphology 1, 4, 7, and 14 days after wounding. Epithelial defects healed significantly more slowly following 10-mm-diameter SLK than following DBK.

ASSESSING THE CUTTING EFFICIENCY OF DENTAL DIAMOND BURS

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1996
This study measured the cutting efficiencies of 15 types of roundend tapered conventional and disposable diamond burs. The results showed that disposable diamond burs had cutting efficiencies that were comparable to those of conventional (multiuse) diamond burs; their use should reduce the risk of clinical cross-infection.

Dental diamond burs made with a new technology

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1999
Conventional diamond burs show several limitations such as the heterogeneity of grain shapes, the difficulty of automation during fabrication, the decrease of cutting effectiveness due to repeated sterilization, and short lifetime. An additional shortcoming may be represented by the potential release of Ni+2 ions from the metallic binder into the body ...

DENTAL CUTTING: THE HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF DIAMOND BURS

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1998
This brief history of the dental diamond bur is intended to provide both a historical perspective and an evaluation of the current state of bur technology. An understanding of the origins of dental diamonds and the issues facing manufacturers transforms the dentist from a simple user into an informed consumer.

The Influence of Autoclaving on Diamond Burs Fabricated via Different Methods

The International Journal of Prosthodontics, 2021
To evaluate the influence of repetitive autoclaving on diamond burs fabricated via different methods.A total of 96 diamond burs were divided into 12 groups according to fabrication method (single-element electroplating, multi-element electroplating, or brazing) and number of times autoclaved (0, 5, 10, or 15). The surface characteristics and components

Prevention of burring in diamond honing

Russian Engineering Research, 2015
In honing, burring is formed at the edges of radial holes in the wall of the hole being machined. Means of preventing such burring are considered.
