CUTTING EFFICIENCY OF THREE DIAMOND BUR GRIT SIZES

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 2000
Tooth preparation requires safe, efficient and rapid cutting, and diamond burs routinely are used for extracoronal preparation and gross tooth reduction. Coarser-grit diamond burs often are used for gross tooth reduction, with tooth surface finishes being sacrificed for the presumed greater cutting rates, or CRs, of the coarser diamond burs.

Disinfection of dental diamond burs contaminated with hepatitis B virus

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1999
Hepatitis B infection (HBV) is a significant hazard in the dental environment because the virus may be transmitted through contaminated dental instruments. This study determined whether cold disinfectants can inactivate HBV DNA and HBV surface antigens on diamond burs contaminated with HBV and whether ultrasonication can increase the antiviral ...

Using chemomechanically assisted diamond bur cutting for improved efficiency

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 2003
Surface active agents added to handpiece coolants enhance bur cutting rates, or CRs, through chemomechanical effects, or CMEs. The authors evaluate the effect of CMEs on long-term cutting by diamond burs. The authors tested medium-grit diamonds in a high-speed handpiece under a 147.5-gram load at 350,000 revolutions per minute, with 22 milliliters per ...

[The effects of sterilization with microwaves on diamond burs].

Minerva stomatologica, 1993
The author evaluates microwave sterilization effects on diamond dental burs by viewing them under stereomicroscope before and after sterilization cycles. After fifteen cycles it has been observed that no damage was present. Such sterilizing system can be used as an alternative method against disposable burs.
