Arsonic Acid Functional Polymers Enable Stabilization of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles in Aqueous Solution

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Arsonic acid containing diblock copolymers are developed to incorporate arsonic acid moieties for surface anchoring to IONPs, along with water soluble PEG blocks to impart colloidal stability in aqueous environments. The resulting polymer‐coated IONPs are evaluated for stability in physiological media and cytocompatibility.

The Diamond Model of Open Access Publishing: Why Policy Makers, Scholars, Universities, Libraries, Labour Unions and the Publishing World Need to Take Non-Commercial, Non-Profit Open Access Serious

open access: yestripleC: Communication, Capitalism & Critique, 2013
This reflection introduces a new term to the debate on open access publishing: diamond open access (DOA) publishing. The debate on open access is a debate about the future of academia.

Electrochromic properties of a poly(dithienylfuran) derivative featuring a redox-active dithiin unit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A teraryl monomer containing a 1,4-dithiin-furan central unit has been synthesised and characterised by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The di(thienyl)furan monomer 11 was successfully polymerised electrochemically and shown to possess a lower ...

Acceleration of Phase‐Modulated Ultrashort Echo Time Sequence for Fast T2 and Adiabatic T1ρ Mapping of the Knee Joints

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose To develop and validate an accelerated phase‐modulated ultrashort echo time (PM‐UTE) sequence for volumetric T2 and adiabatic T1ρ (AdiabT1ρ) mapping of both short‐ and long‐T2 tissues in the knee joint. Methods The proposed method estimates and removes the T1‐dependent component from a single reference acquisition, eliminating repeated

Rheology–Performance Framework for PA6/GO Nanocomposites via a Hybrid Processing Route

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Hybrid PA6/GO nanocomposites with tuned melt rheology and improved thermal–mechanical performance. ABSTRACT Balancing melt processability with stiffness and heat resistance remains a central challenge for PA6 nanocomposites. Here, graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized by a modified Hummers method and incorporated into PA6 via a hybrid route (solution ...

Stem and progenitor cells: Origins, phenotypes, lineage commitments, and transdifferentiations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Multipotent stem cells are clonal cells that self-renew as well as differentiate to regenerate adult tissues. Whereas stem cells and their fates are known by unique genetic marker studies, the fate and function of these cells are best studied by their ...

Atomic Step–Terrace Ordering Enables Unprecedentedly Low Pop‐in Stress Scatter in GaN (0001)

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Step–terrace GaN surfaces with monoatomic topography were realized using catalyst‐referred etching. On these surfaces, pop‐ins occurred at ideal strength with a record‐low stress scatter of 2.3%, providing compelling evidence that atomic‐scale surface ordering plays a critical role in triggering incipient plasticity. Atomic‐scale surface irregularities,
