Diaphragm plication in adult patients with diaphragm paralysis

Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 2007
Diaphragm paralysis in adults can cause severe dyspnea which results from the paradoxical movement of the diaphragm. Surgical plication can be done with excellent long-term results.

Long-term Effect of Bilateral Plication of the Diaphragm

Chest, 2000
To assess the feasibility and clinical outcome of bilateral plication of the diaphragm in patients with bilateral diaphragmatic paralysis (BDP) caused by neuralgic amyotrophy (NA), a mononeuritis of the phrenic nerves.Prospective, case-control study over a 1-year period.A university hospital in The Netherlands.Six patients who presented with BDP caused

Thoracoscopic Plication of the Diaphragm

Pediatric Endosurgery & Innovative Techniques, 2002
A new technique for thoracoscopic plication of the diaphragm is described. An 11-month-old girl who presented with repeated pneumonia and respiratory distress revealed left-sided paralytic eventration of the diaphragm after cardiac surgery. Thoracoscopic plication of the diaphragm was performed under artificial pneumothorax using CO2. The diaphragm was

Vats Plication of the Diaphragm a Descriptive Observational 10-Year Southampton Experience

open access: yesInnovations: Technology and Techniques in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, 2017
Objective The aim of the study was to report the safety and efficacy of video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) plication of the diaphragm at our institution between 2006 and 2016. Methods Adult patients selected on etiology and combination of investigations

A case of rupture of the diaphragm caused by the plication for diaphragm eventration

The Japanese Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1998
A 71-year-old woman, in whom the herniation of right-sided diaphragm was diagnosed, was admitted to our hospital on ambulance car complaining of increasing right-sided chest pain and worsening of dyspnea. She was given emergency laparotomy. The transverse colon and omentum pushed the liver backward.

Plication of the diaphragm for unilateral eventration or paralysis

European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 1992
Unilateral diaphragmatic paralysis and eventration have the same appearance and provoke the same disturbances. Diaphragmatic plication is intended to decrease lung compression, to make the thoracic base and mediastinum more stable, and to strengthen the respiratory action of intercostal, perithoracic, and abdominal muscles: 13 infants and children were

Best Approach and Benefit of Plication for Paralyzed Diaphragm

Thoracic Surgery Clinics, 2016
Diaphragmatic eventration and diaphragmatic paralysis are 2 entities with different etiology and pathology, and are often clinically indistinguishable. When symptomatic, their treatment is the same, with the objective to reduce the dysfunctional cephalad excursion of the diaphragm during inspiration.

Minimally Invasive Diaphragm Plication for Acquired Unilateral Diaphragm Paralysis: A Systematic Review

Innovations: Technology and Techniques in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, 2022
Objective: Diaphragm paralysis is a relatively uncommon entity that can be both congenital and acquired in nature. While commonly asymptomatic, it can also cause a significant decrease in pulmonary function and reserve, particularly in patients with underlying pulmonary diseases.

[Robotic Diaphragm Plication].

Zentralblatt fur Chirurgie, 2023
Acquired unilateral hemidiaphragm elevation is characterised by dyspnoea, which is typically aggravated when lying down, bending over or during swimming. The most common causes are idiopathic or due to injury to the phrenic nerve during cervical or cardio-thoracic surgery. To date, surgical diaphragm plication remains the only effective treatment.

Minimally Invasive Diaphragm Plication in an Infant

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1998
We report the use of video-assisted thoracic surgery to plicate the diaphragm after phrenic nerve injury associated with an operation for congenital heart disease. Right diaphragm paresis developed in a cyanotic newborn girl with pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum after a right modified Blalock-Taussig shunt.
