Staphylococcus aureus is a leading cause of foodborne diarrhea, primarily due to staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs). This study employed whole‐genome sequencing to characterize 106 S. aureus isolates from diarrheal patients in East China (2019–2024). We identified 23 sequence types, with ST398 (22.6%) and ST5 (7.5%) among the most prevalent.

Public health implications of a case of haemolytic-uraemic syndrome associated with a concomitant outbreak of mild gastroenteritis in a small rural community. [PDF]
The concomitant occurrence of a case of haemolytic-uraemic syndrome (HUS) and 62 cases of mild gastroenteritis in schools of a small rural community in southern Italy induced the health authorities to suspect a foodborne outbreak of shiga-toxin-producing

ABSTRACT Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) are a common cause for food-borne diarrheal illness outbreaks and sporadic cases. Here, we report the availability of the draft genome sequences of 228 STEC strains representing 32 serotypes with known pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) types and ...

Preferential attachment of Escherichia coli to different particle size fractions of an agricultural grassland soil. [PDF]
This study reports on the attachment preference of a faecally derived bacterium, Escherichia coli, to soil particles of defined size fractions. In a batch sorption experiment using a clay loam soil it was found that 35% of introduced E.
