Therapeutic Options for Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli

2023
Although diarrheagenic E. coli (DEC) pathotypes cause diarrhea by different mechanisms, a critical clinical sign that places a patient in a life-threatening condition is dehydration. Treatment of dehydration radically improved with the establishment of oral rehydration solutions (ORS), which significantly contributed to a decrease in diarrhea ...

Ice as a vehicle for diarrheagenic Escherichia coli

International Journal of Food Microbiology, 2004
In a recent study of the microbiological quality of commercial ice, 50 Escherichia coli isolates belonging to different serotypes were found. The potential hazard from these isolates was examined by testing their adherence patterns in HeLa cells and searching for the presence of DNA sequences related to E. coli virulence properties.

Mechanisms of emerging diarrheagenic Escherichia coli infection

Current Infectious Disease Reports, 2002
Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli organisms are major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although most strains of E. coli are harmless commensals, a few types have emerged that are capable of disrupting the normal physiology of the human gut, producing illness ranging from watery diarrhea to fatal hemorrhagic colitis. Diarrheagenic E. coli cause

Detection of Diarrheagenic Escherichia Coli in Rabbits

Alexandria Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2019
Bacteriological examination of 250 faecal swab samples collected from diarrheic, apparently healthy and freshly dead rabbits acquired from commercial fattening farms in different localities from Alexandria governorate (Egypt) showed that 152 samples (60.8 %) were positive for E. coli isolation. The prevalence of E. coli was 57.43% in apparently healthy

Diagnosis and Investigation of Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli

2003
Although most Escherichia coli are harmless commensals of the human intestine, certain specific, highly-adapted E. coli strains are capable of causing urinary tract, systemic or enteric/diarrheagenic infection. Diarrheagenic E coli are divided into six distinct categories, or pathotypes, each with a distinct pathogenic scheme (Table 1).
