Automated Diatom Classification (Part B): A Deep Learning Approach

open access: yes, 2017
Diatoms, a kind of algae microorganisms with several species, are quite useful for water quality determination, one of the hottest topics in applied biology nowadays. At the same time, deep learning and convolutional neural networks (CNN) are becoming an

Microblasting Wound Dressings Mechanically Disrupt Polymicrobial Biofilms to Enhance Healing in Treatment‐Resistant Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Treatment‐resistant wounds caused by polymicrobial biofilms are refractory to conventional therapies due to the dense extracellular matrices. We developed μBLAST, a microblasting wound dressing that combines MnO2‐doped biosilica and a H2O2‐releasing mesh to generate localized oxygen microbubbles that mechanically disrupt biofilms.

A polyphasic method for the characterization of epiphytic diatoms growing on Gelidium corneum

open access: yesMethodsX
Epiphytic diatoms associated with marine macroalgae play vital ecological roles in nutrient cycling and primary production, yet their study remains limited due to the lack of standardized methodologies. This study focuses on diatom communities growing on

Culturing Diatoms

open access: yes, 2023
In this chapter, we provide information on cultures of diatoms, starting with a brief introduction of the history of diatom culture collections. We present a synopsis of diatom strains currently available in culture collections and their representation in terms of habitat diversity, geographical distribution, phylogeny and taxonomic diversity.

Exploring Quantum Support Vector Regression for Predicting Hydrogen Storage Capacity of Nanoporous Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
In this study we employed support vector regressor and quantum support vector regressor to predict the hydrogen storage capacity of metal–organic frameworks using structural and physicochemical descriptors. This study presents a comparative analysis of classical support vector regression (SVR) and quantum support vector regression (QSVR) in predicting ...
