Abstract Genetically modified maize MON 95379 was developed to confer insect protection against certain lepidopteran species. These properties were achieved by introducing the cry1B.868 and cry1Da_7 expression cassettes. The molecular characterisation data and bioinformatic analyses do not identify issues requiring food/feed safety assessment.

Maize diversity for fall armyworm resistance in a warming world
Abstract Currently, maize (Zea mays L.) production is under threat from climate change, drought, and pests such as fall armyworm (FAW) [Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)]. Since its first detection outside of its native range in 2016, FAW has spread into 76 nations across Africa and Asia adversely affecting maize production ...

A first draft genome of the Sugarcane borer, Diatraea saccharalis. [PDF]
Background: The sugarcane borer (Diatraea saccharalis), a widely distributed moth throughout the Americas, is a pest that affects economically important crops such as sugarcane, sorghum, wheat, maize and rice. Given its significant impact on yield reduction, whole-genome information of the species is needed.

Biological aspects of wild and laboratory-reared populations of Cotesia flavipes was assessed parasitizing Diatraea saccharalis and Diatraea flavipennella. The experiments were conducted using a climate-controlled room adjusted to 26 ± 2 °C, relative humidity of 70 ± 10%, and 12:12 h (Light: Dark) photoperiod.

Ultrastructure of the ovariole sheath in Diatraea saccharalis (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae).
The ultrastructure of the ovariole sheath along the Diatraea saccharalis ovariole was studied by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Each ovariole is surrounded by an epithelial sheath, a tunica propria and scattered lumen cells. These three components of the ovariole sheath show different ultrastructural features along the ovariole, in the ...
