Role of Polychlorinated Dibenzofuran in Yusho (PCB Poisoning)

In the blood of 15 patients with yusho or "polychlorinated biphenyl poisoning" that occurred in 1979 in Taiwan, was found polychlorinated dibenzofurans (14 of 15) and polychlorinated quaterphenyls (15 of 15), as well as polychlorinated biphenyls (15 of 15). The mean concentration ratio of these substances was approximately 1 : 160 : 500.

Survey of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, polychlorinated dibenzofurans and polychlorinated biphenyls in urban air

PCDD, PCDF and PCB concentration levels in urban air were measured by HRGC/HRMS system. The seasonal variations in PCDD/DF and PCB were only slight. The concentration levels of PCDD/DF in winter were higher than in summer but concentration levels of PCB in summer were higher than in winter.

Polychlorinated biphenyl, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin, and polychlorinated dibenzofuran contamination in PCB disposal facilities

Abstract The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recently completed industrial hygiene surveys in three PCB disposal facilities. Contamination levels of PCBs (surface and airborne) and PCDDs/PCDFs (surface) were characterized during normal operations.

Polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans in PVC pyrolysis

The tars produced by PVC pyrolysis under different conditions of temperature and oxygen concentration were analysed for PCDDs and PCDFs content. The tar collected after low temperature pyrolysis (500 °C) and in reduced oxygen atmosphere (11.6% O2) had the highest PCDDs/PCDFs content.
