Neonematobothrium annakohnae n. sp. (Digenea: Didymozoidae) parasitizing Euthynnus alletteratus (Perciformes: Scombridae) in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean

Acta Parasitologica, 2021
Describe a new species of didymozoid digenean Neonematobothrium Yamaguti, 1965 from the operculum of the scombrid fish, Euthynnus alletteratus (Rafinesque, 1810), in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean off Brazil.Thirty-four specimens of E. alletteratus were collected in the coastal zone of the state of Rio de Janeiro and obtained from local fishermen between

Atypical spermiogenesis in a parasitic flatworm, Didymozoon (trematoda: digenea: didymozoidae)

Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1984
Spermiogenesis in trematodes usually involves the formation in the spermatid of a characteristic structure, a protuberance called the zone of differentiation. This structure was not found in Didymozoon. Instead, spermiogenesis in Didymozoon consists of an elongation of the whole spermatid.

Genetic variability in members of Didymozoidae family isolated from two bluefin tuna species

2007
Atlantic (Thunnus thynnus) and Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) are migratory marine teleosts that are declining in abundance due to overexploitation in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. Recently, molecular and electronic tag data has shown that at least two populations exist in the North Atlantic and mix on foraging grounds in the North ...

Ultrastructure of Didymocystis semiglobularis (Didymozoidae, Digenea) cysts in the gills of Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis)

Parasitology Research, 2008
Tuna are active pelagic fish with an extraordinary migratory activity, well known for their unique physiology reflected in high metabolic rates. However, knowledge of microbial and environmental diseases is still limited. We have analyzed the ultrastructure of the digenean trematode Didymocystis semiglobularis isolated from the gill arch of Pacific ...
