The Measurement of Small Dielectric Losses in a Cavity Resonator

Measurement Techniques, 2002
The measurement of small dielectric losses using a cylindrical H01p cavity resonator is considered. It is shown that existing standard methods of measuring tanδ give values that are too high (State Standard GOST 27496.2-87 (MEK 377-2-77)) or too low (State Standard GOST 8.544-86) due to the approximations used in them.

The Development on Digitized Dielectric Loss Measurement System

2010 International Conference on E-Product E-Service and E-Entertainment, 2010
According to the complex, heavy workload and low automation of traditional dielectric loss measurement, a digital and automatic measurement system based on electronic technology and PC technology is designed. The system can work in two modes, has features such as automatic calibration and automatic range. It can achieve the functions of fast dielectric

A new instrument approach to dielectric loss measurements

1954 Conference On Electrical Insulation, 1954
A new instrument has been developed which displays simultaneously on two meters the difference in magnitude and phase angle between an unknown and a standard impedance. These impedances may be resistors, capacitors, inductors, or any complex impedance. No balancing operation is used, but instead the vector components of the bridge unbalance voltage are

An novel in-service cable dielectric loss measurement

2017 IEEE Electrical Insulation Conference (EIC), 2017
Dielectric loss (DL/tan δ) measurement is a key technique which has been used in condition assessment of power cables. Existing off-line DL measurement does not reveal insulation problems which only appear under operational stresses. Limited online DL monitoring techniques have been reported.

Dielectric constant and loss measurements at microwave frequencies

1963 EI Electrical Insulation Conference Materials and Application, 1963
Primarily, this paper presents a survey of the more frequently used techniques for determining both the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of solid dielectric materials at test frequencies which fall within the 10 Gc to 80 Gc range. The methods described are most applicable to the measurement of dielectric constant values from 2.00 to 12.00 and ...

Detection of transient species by measurement of dielectric loss

The Journal of Physical Chemistry, 1979
This communication pointed out that the absorption of microwave energy to detect ions in gas, liquid and solid phases and to measure certain of their properties and reaction kinetics is not limited to the detection of ions and that other chemical changes such as those giving rise to changes in molecular dipole moment will also affect the absorption of ...

On dielectric losses at microwaves: Sensitive measurements and results

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1969
Two methods of measuring the permittivity and the dielectric losses at microwaves are described. With the first method, which uses a circular E 010 resonator, a sensitivity \epsilon_{\min}" \approx 3 \times 10^{-4} could be obtained. The accuracy is rather low (≈ 5 percent). The second method uses a high-quality H_{01n} resonator which resonates at the

Measurement of the dielectric properties of low-loss materials

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1965
A method described in 1957 has been improved, to allow measurement of the power factor of sheet specimens to within about ±5×10 -6 at frequencies from about 1 kc/s to 1 Mc/s, while the permittivity can be measured to within about ±0.1%, the uncertainty being contributed mainly by that in measuring the thickness of the specimen.

Unbalanced a.c. bridges for the measurement of dielectric loss

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1977
The ideal a.c. bridge would include a variable conductance standard, but no such component can be made for high frequencies. The need for it can be avoided by working with a slightly unbalanced bridge, in which the unbalanced signal is a measure of the conductance of the specimen. The method is particularly suitable for measurements of dielectric loss,
