Analyzing Electronic Excitations and Exciton Binding Energies in Y6 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The Y6 molecule is used for increasing the efficiency of organic solar cells. The exciton binding energy is calculated for ensembles of Y6 molecules that are representative of the typically used films. The calculations show that the excitons typically spread out over many molecules.

Dual-polarised dielectric resonator antenna with high isolation and low cross-polarisation

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2009
A novel, dual-polarised dielectric resonator antenna with high-isolation and low cross-polarisation is presented using a hybrid feeding technique. Port isolation of 35.9 dB and a cross-polarisation level of −34 dB are measured. The impedance bandwidth of return loss less than −10 dB is 440 MHz (7.9%) with a centre frequency of 5.7 GHz.

Enhanced Terahertz Spectroscopy of a Monolayer Transition Metal Dichalcogenide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An ad‐hoc engineered metallic surface is employed to perform enhanced terahertz spectroscopy of a monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD). Thanks to a local absorption boost of 104, this technique allows for the extraction of the phonon resonance features and effective permittivity of the 2D material, paving the way for the rational design of ...

Ultrasensitive and fast single wavelength plasmonic hydrogen sensing with anisotropic nanostructured Pd films

open access: yes, 2018
Anisotropic nanostructured porous Pd films are fabricated using oblique angle deposition in vacuum on a glass substrate. They display a dichroic response, due to localised surface plasmon resonances (LSPR) within the nanoparticles forming the film ...

Polarisation‐independent diffraction grating based on dielectric metasurface [PDF]

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2019
Dielectric metasurfaces composed of arrays of subwavelength structures are capable of completely manipulating the phase, amplitude, and polarisation of light. In this Letter, a dielectric metasurface grating imitating the blazing behaviour of saw‐tooth gratings for imaging spectrometer is proposed.

Harnessing Outer Space for Improved Electrocaloric Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel radiative heat sink/source‐integrated electrocaloric (R‐iEC) system combines the electrocaloric (EC) effect with a thermally conductive radiative cooler (TCRC) to address heat dissipation limitations in EC devices. Utilizing outer space as a heat sink, the system achieves up to 240 W m−2 of heat dissipation performance, making it highly ...

Transport theory and low energy properties of colour superconductors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The one-loop polarisation tensor and the propagation of ``in-medium'' photons of colour superconductors in the 2SC and CFL phase is discussed. For a study of thermal corrections to the low energy effective theory in the 2SC phase, a classical transport ...

Array of circular-polarised cross dielectric resonatorantennas

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1996
A compact array of circular polarised cross-shaped dielectric resonator antennas (XDRAs) is presented. The array consists of 2/spl times/2 XDRAs elicited by microstrip-fed slot apertures in the X-band. By using sequential rotation to feed the XDRAs, the circular polarisation bandwidth is significantly increased from 5% for the individual XDRA to 16% in
