The Combustion Process in the Diesel Engine.
Chemical Reviews, 1938The Diesel engine is characterized by injection of fuel in the combustion chamber and by selfignition. Both characteristics give rise to typical problems. The former characteristic, i.e., injection of the fuel with subsequent formation of a combustible mixture, is the fundamental one.

The Diesel-Engine Situation Today
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1930Abstract The first commercially successful Diesel engines were a product of American manufacturers, but now large Diesels are being built principally in Germany. This country, however, is making considerable headway in manufacture of engines up to 1000 b.hp. per cylinder.
