Comparability of Weighed Dietary Records and a Self-Administered Diet History Questionnaire for Estimating Monetary Cost of Dietary Energy

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Insights, 2008
An increasing number of studies have estimated monetary diet cost using various dietary assessment methods, based on databases on retail food prices, for investigating its association with dietary intake and health outcomes.

Energetic Offset in Organic Solar Cells‐ Importance, Confusion and Outlook

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Energetic offsets in organic solar cells (OSCs) remain a subject of debate due to measurement‐ and lab‐dependent discrepancies. This Perspective clarifies the physical origins of these variations and identifies temperature‐dependent electro‐optical methods as a reliable approach to obtain consistent offset values.

Material Before Morphology: Substrate‐Dependent Mechanical Tuning of Radular Teeth

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Substrate‐dependent material tuning in Clausilia radular teeth. Closely related taxa retain a conserved gross tooth morphology, but differ in elemental composition and mechanical properties according to feeding substrate. Rock‐associated taxa show increased Ca–Si enrichment and higher stiffness and hardness, especially in the central radular region ...

New records of Suncus etruscus (Soricidae, Mammalia) and its current status in Bulgaria

open access: yesHistoria Naturalis Bulgarica
We present 17 new records of Suncus etruscus in Bulgaria, and the first finding of the species north of Stara Planina Mountains. The species is recorded in the diet of three owl species - Tyto alba, Asio otus and Athene noctua, and one bird of prey ...

Assessing compliance with Paleolithic diet by calculating Paleolithic Diet Fraction as the fraction of intake from Paleolithic food groups

open access: yesClinical Nutrition Experimental, 2019
Summary: Background: Dietary compliance assessments are absent in clinical studies on Paleolithic diet. We therefore developed a ‘Paleolithic Diet Fraction’ (PDF), calculated as the fraction of intake from Paleolithic food groups, to assess compliance ...

Conformable Ferrimagnetic Tattoo Electrodes for Plant Electrophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The newly developed ferrimagnetic tattoo electrode is capable of measuring plant electrophysiological activity outside the Faraday cage. Its ability to adhere without damaging the plant tissue allows long‐term recordings. This premise opens new avenues for in‐field monitoring of plant health through electrophysiology.

Canine atopic dermatitis: validation of recorded diagnosis against practice records in 335 insured Swedish dogs

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2006
A cross-sectional study of insured Swedish dogs with a recorded diagnosis of canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) was performed. In order to validate the correctness of this specific diagnosis in the insurance database, medical records were requested by mail ...

Does Digital Photography Improve the Accuracy of Diet Records in the Elderly?

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2012
Utilizing digital photography alongside food records could prove to be a feasible way to refine the accuracy of food records in the elderly population. We determined whether the accuracy of 3‐day food records is improved by use of an accompanying digital photographic food record.

Adipocyte‐Derived Leptolin Enhances Energy Expenditure and Prevents Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identified a novel adipokine, which we named leptolin. In humans, leptolin levels in white adipose tissue were positively correlated with exercise and negatively associated with body mass index. We observed elevated leptolin in serum from athletes and lower leptolin in serum from obese individuals.

Record of Lepidoptera and Hemiptera as a food resource of Acutisoma longipes Roewer, 1913 (Arachnida; Opiliones) in the Cerrado, Brazil

open access: yesEntomoBrasilis
Harvestmen are nocturnal arachnids, commonly found in humid forests, with omnivorous feeding behavior. There are records of different taxa in the diet of these arthropods, but data is still scarce for many species, especially in Cerrado areas. Thus, the
