Hazard to the developing male reproductive system from cumulative exposure to phthalate esters—dibutyl phthalate, diisobutyl phthalate, butylbenzyl phthalate, diethylhexyl phthalate, dipentyl phthalate, and diisononyl phthalate

Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2009
Phthalate esters are found in a wide variety of consumer and food packing products. Hence there is widespread exposure of the human population to these chemicals. Some of the phthalate esters are known to be toxic to the developing male reproductive system.

Investigations on the mechanism of the hypocholesterolemic action of diethylhexyl phthalate in rats

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1986
The plasticizer di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), used widely in the manufacture of food packages and medical plastic devices, depressed serum cholesterol (40%) and proliferated hepatic mitochondria (100%) when administered in the diet (2%, w/w) to the rat.

Diethylhexyl phthalate exposure impairs follicular development and affects oocyte maturation in the mouse

Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis, 2013
Diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) is an estrogen‐like compound widely used as a commercial plasticizer and present in medical devices, tubing, food containers and packaging. It is considered an endocrine disruptor and studies on experimental animals showed that exposure to DEHP can alter the function of several organs including liver, kidneys, lungs and ...

Diethylhexyl phthalate removal in full scale activated sludge plants: Effect of operational parameters

Chemosphere, 2019
Removal of emerging contaminants (ECs) is a serious concern in wastewater industry especially for public acceptance of reclaimed water. Diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) is one of the ubiquitous and detectable plasticizers in municipal wastewater across the globe.

Esterase-mediated degradation of dibutyl and diethylhexyl phthalates in aqueous and soil systems

Chemosphere
Phthalate esters (PAEs), widely used as plasticizers, pose severe environmental and health risks. This study investigated the enzymatic hydrolysis of PAE congeners (dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP)) in aqueous and soil systems using Bacillus subtilis esterase and a new thermoalkaliphilic Geobacillus sp. esterase.
