Solvatochromie Shifts and Polarity of Solvent Mixtures

open access: yesCHIMIA, 1982
The local polarity of solvent mixtures near a polar solute molecule can be very different from the mixture’s bulk polarity. A general mechanism which determines the local polarity is the “dielectric enrichment” which is described by the thermodynamic ...

A novel stochastic simulation approach enables exploration of mechanisms for regulating polarity site movement.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2021
Cells polarize their movement or growth toward external directional cues in many different contexts. For example, budding yeast cells grow toward potential mating partners in response to pheromone gradients.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Preparation of Polarity-Marked Microtubules Using a Plus-End Capping DARPin

open access: yesBio-Protocol
The eukaryotic cytoskeleton is formed in part by microtubules, which are relatively rigid filaments with inherent structural polarity. One consequence of this polarity is that the two ends of a microtubule have different properties with important ...

Development of dendrite polarity in Drosophila neurons

open access: yesNeural Development, 2012
Background Drosophila neurons have dendrites that contain minus-end-out microtubules. This microtubule arrangement is different from that of cultured mammalian neurons, which have mixed polarity microtubules in dendrites.

Scalar properties of negative polarity superlatives

open access: yesBorealis: An International Journal of Hispanic Linguistics, 2020
Most theories agree that polarity sensitivity must be related to scalarity one way or another. Superlatives are a good example of this, since their “endpoint nature” allows for them to be in negative contexts with a quantitative interpretation.

Polarization modulation for fluorescence emission difference microscopy

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
Effects of the polarization on subtracted images in fluorescence emission difference microscopy are numerically investigated based on vector beam diffraction theory and alteration of Jones matrices. Parameters of resolution, signal loss, and amplitude of negative sidebands after subtraction are discussed along with the polarization of excitation beams ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

On Polarizing Outranking Relations with Large Performance Differences [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis, 2012
ABSTRACTWe introduce a bipolarly extended veto principle—a positive, as well as negative, large performance differences polarization—which allows us to extend the definition of the classical outranking relation in such a way that the identity between its asymmetric part and its codual relation is preserved.
