Automated cell differential count in sputum is feasible and comparable to manual cell count in identifying eosinophilia

open access: yesJournal of Asthma, 2021
Cell differential count (CDC) of induced sputum is considered the gold standard for inflammatory phenotyping of asthma but is not implemented in routine care due to its heavy time- and staff demands. Digital Cell Morphology is a technique where digital images of cells are captured and presented preclassified as white blood cells (neutrophils ...

PREDICTIVE VALUE OF WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT AND DIFFERENTIAL CELL COUNT TO BACTERIAL INFECTIONS IN CHILDREN

Acta Paediatrica, 1982
ABSTRACT. White blood cell counts and differential cell counts were measured prospectively during the first 24 hours of admission in 132 children aged 3 months to 13 years hospitalized with an acute infectious illness. 25 children were excluded from the study and the remaining 107 children were divided into diagnostic categories without knowledge of ...

Differential leucocyte count for ewe milk with low and high somatic cell count

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Research, 2010
This study was undertaken to compare flow cytometry (FC) and direct microscopic leucocyte count (MDLC) for the differentiation of macrophages, lymphocytes and polymorphonuclear leucocyte (PMN) and to evaluate leucocyte distribution in ewe milk with low and high somatic cell count (SCC). Milk samples were grouped for somatic cell count in low SCC (LSCC)

Associations between differential somatic cell count and milk yield, quality, and technological characteristics in Holstein cows

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2021
The aim of this study was to investigate the associations between differential somatic cell count (DSCC) and milk quality and udder health traits, and for the first time, between DSCC and milk coagulation properties and cheesemaking traits in a ...

Differential somatic cell count in milk before, during, and after lipopolysaccharide- and lipoteichoic-acid-induced mastitis in dairy cows

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2018
Intramammary infections induce the initiation of the inflammatory response, resulting in an increase in somatic cell count (SCC) in milk. The SCC includes several different types of cells but does not differentiate between them.

White Blood Cell Count and Differential Count

Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America, 1986
Current methods for performing the white blood cell count and differential count along with recent technologic advances are discussed. Sources of error and variation in these tests are presented. The use of the white blood cell count and the differential count in a variety clinical situations is reviewed.

Milk differential cell counts in relation to total counts in Sardinian ewes

Small Ruminant Research, 1997
Abstract Milk samples from 40 primiparous Sardinian ewes were examined during a whole lactation period in order to evaluate the dynamics of somatic cell counts (SCC), differential cell counts (DCC) and bacteriological status of the mammary gland. Only four samples out of 240 were bacteriologically positive and this was confirmed by the geometrical ...

The influence of technical factors on differential cell count in milk

Journal of Dairy Research, 2005
Differential cell count of milk is a traditional parameter for the evaluation of udder health. The literature shows great variation in differential cell counts of the milk of healthy mammary glands: macrophages range from 0% to 80%, lymphocytes from 1·5% to 79·5%, polymorphonuclear neutrophils from 3% to 95%, and epithelial cells from 1% to 19%.

Counting and Differential of Bone Marrow Cells by an Electronic Method

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1986
The authors studied the cell count and size distribution curves of nucleated cells in bone marrow aspirate, using a fully automatic blood cell counter, and compared the results with those of the traditional manual method. The cell count by the electronic method correlated well with that by the manual method when the cell concentration was 100 X 10(9)/L

Variation and Information in White Blood Cell Differential Counts

Medical Decision Making, 1984
The magnitude and sources of variation in the white blood cell (WBC) count and differential count affect their information content and clinical value. This study describes components of variation in the WBC count and differential, estimates the magnitude of each component, and uses computer simulations to compare the information conveyed by the total ...
