Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...

Mapping the differential distribution of proteoglycan core proteins in the adult human retina, choroid, and sclera.

open access: yesInvestigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, 2012
PURPOSE To examine the presence and distribution of proteoglycan (PG) core proteins in the adult human retina, choroid, and sclera. METHODS Postmortem human eye tissue was dissected into Bruch's membrane/choroid complex, isolated Bruch's membrane, or ...

Network topology drives population temporal variability in experimental habitat networks

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Habitat patches connected by dispersal pathways form habitat networks. We explored how network topology affects population outcomes in laboratory experiments using a model species (Daphnia carinata). Central habitat nodes in complex lattice networks exhibited lower temporal variability in population sizes, suggesting they support more stable ...

Line-of-sight quantum key distribution with differential phase shift keying

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2022
Free-space optical (FSO) links offer a practical approach to realize quantum key distribution (QKD) in a global scale. However, when one wants to further extend the distance from the geostationary orbit to the ground, currently known QKD schemes cannot ...

The Differential Entropy of the Joint Distribution of Eigenvalues of Random Density Matrices

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
We derive exactly the differential entropy of the joint distribution of eigenvalues of Wishart matrices. Based on this result, we calculate the differential entropy of the joint distribution of eigenvalues of random mixed quantum states, which is induced

Time-Consistency of an Imputation in a Cooperative Hybrid Differential Game

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
This work is aimed at studying the problem of maintaining the sustainability of a cooperative solution in an n-person hybrid differential game. Specifically, we consider a differential game whose payoff function is discounted with a discounting function ...

The Fully-Differential Quark Beam Function at NNLO

open access: yes, 2014
We present the first calculation of a fully-unintegrated parton distribution (beam function) at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). We obtain the fully-differential beam function for quark-initiated processes by matching it onto standard parton ...

Gender wage differentials and occupational distribution [PDF]

open access: yesNotas Económicas, 2009
The study analyzes the role of occupational distribution in explaining the male-female wage gap in the Portuguese economy. The objective is to investigate to what extent gender wage disparities can be explained by occupational segregation. Relying on data from the personnel records for the period 1986-2004, this study uses the Brown, Moon, and Zoloth ...
