Bilateral Symmetry and Variation of Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve and Inferior Thyroid Artery Patterns: An Intraoperative Study of 150 Nerves

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The anatomical relationship of the inferior thyroid artery (ITA) and the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) is highly variable. This study aims to evaluate bilateral RLN branching patterns and their relationship to the ITA within the same patient, predicting contralateral anatomical variations and ultimately reducing intraoperative risk of RLN ...

“The potential role of CXCR4 and SDF-1 as indicators of tumor aggressiviness in patients with conventional papillary thyroid carcinoma”

open access: yes, 2008
Background: Functional chemokine receptors are expressed in many malignant tumors, including papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). These receptors promote tumor growth and metastasis in response to endogenous chemokines.

Two Central Nervous System Tumors in One Catheter Lab: Time to Rethink Radiation Protection

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Very little research has been done on the possible effects that repeated, frequent, and low‐dose ionizing radiation exposure has on the long‐term health of interventional cardiologists. Aims Following the diagnosis in the same year of two central nervous system tumors in two operators working in the same catheter laboratory, we ...

From Metabolic Crisis to Molecular Classification: Multidisciplinary Management of Synchronous Endometrioid Ovarian and Endometrial Carcinomas With Massive Tumor Burden

open access: yesCancer Nexus, EarlyView.
Managing massive tumor burden in synchronous endometrioid carcinomas. The graphical abstract summarizes the clinical pathway from presentation with massive ascites, pleural effusion, and critical metabolic abnormalities to multidisciplinary stabilization, surgical management, integrated morphologic–molecular classification, and shared decision‐making ...

Current and Emerging Radiotracers and Technologies for Detection of Advanced Differentiated Thyroid Cancer: A Narrative Review

open access: yes
Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), which includes papillary and follicular thyroid cancers, differs significantly in pathology compared to other thyroid malignancies such as medullary thyroid cancer (MTC), anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC), and Hurthle ...

Refractive Index–Correlated Pseudocoloring for Adaptive Color Fusion in Holotomographic Cytology

open access: yesCytometry Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Conventional bright‐field (BF) cytology of thyroid fine‐needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) suffers from staining variability and limited subcellular contrast. Here, we present a refractive index–correlated pseudocoloring (RICP) framework that integrates quantitative refractive index (RI) maps obtained by holotomography (HT) with color BF images ...

Proteomic profiling of Elp1‐deficient trigeminal ganglia reveals disruption of neurotrophic and metabolic pathways in a familial dysautonomia mouse model

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Elp1, a subunit of the Elongator complex, is essential for tRNA modification and neuronal development. Mutations in ELP1 underlie familial dysautonomia (FD), a disorder marked by sensory and autonomic neuropathy. While loss of Elp1 disrupts trigeminal ganglion formation and survival, the downstream molecular consequences remain ...

Combining Transfer of TTF-1 and Pax-8 Gene: a Potential Strategy to Promote Radioiodine Therapy of Thyroid Carcinoma

open access: yes, 2011
Cotransfer of TTF-1 and Pax-8 gene to tumor cells, resulting in the reexpression of iodide metabolism-associated proteins, such as sodium iodide symporter (NIS), thyroglobulin (Tg), thyroperoxidase (TPO), offers the possibility of radioiodine therapy to ...

Chemically Modular, Nonfluorinated Polymer Adsorbents for Capturing Per‐ and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Nonfluorinated polymer networks for PFAS adsorption are synthesized using active ester click chemistry. Incorporating Lewis base ligands along with hydrophilic and hydrophobic co‐monomers leads to high PFOA binding efficiency. Ligand basicity and pH are found to play an important role in PFOA sorption.
