Poorly differentiated thyroid cancer

Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, 2014
Poorly differentiated thyroid carcinomas (PDTCs) comprise a small subset of heterogeneous thyroid tumors, occupying an intermediate area between well differentiated follicular or papillary carcinoma and anaplastic carcinomas, from both a histopathogenetic and a clinical point of view.

Fatal differentiated thyroid cancer

Journal of Surgical Oncology, 1996
Thirty-five patients who died of differentiated thyroid cancer were analyzed for factors affecting survival. The neck was the most common initial site of recurrence (62.0%). The lung was the most common metastatic site (56.7%). Major sites associated with death were locoregional recurrence (neck and mediastinum: 48.6%) and bone metastases (22.9%).

Aggressive differentiated thyroid cancer

European Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2018
Differentiated thyroid cancer is characteristically associated with an innocuous clinical course, but a minority of cases may manifest surprisingly aggressive behaviour. Such aggressive DTC are directly responsible for the majority of thyroid cancer related deaths.

Thyroglobulin in differentiated thyroid cancer

Clinica Chimica Acta, 2015
Identification of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is becoming increasingly common. Patients usually have an excellent prognosis. Most undergo total thyroidectomy, radioiodine ablation and treatment with suppressive doses of levothyroxine. Patients require long term follow-up which includes measurement of serum thyroglobulin (Tg).

Thyroid cancer: differentiated carcinoma

Cancer Treatment Reviews, 1996
disease. The anaplastic cancers present a totally different clinical picture as they grow and metastasize with explosive rapidity. Typically, they are inoperable at presentation and have no ability to concentrate iodine. Their prognosis is appalling, with external-beam radiotherapy providing only palliative treatment. Medullary carcinoma of the thyroid

Differentiated thyroid cancer: an update

Current Opinion in Oncology, 2011
The incidence of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is increasing. There remains controversy regarding several aspects of its management, including the need for prophylactic central compartment neck dissection and use of recombinant human thyroid stimulating hormone (rhTSH) for ¹³¹I radioactive iodine remnant ablation in patients with low-risk disease.

Thyroid hormone therapy in differentiated thyroid cancer

Endocrine, 2019
Surgery-with or without postoperative radioiodine-is the standard of care for most patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC). Thyroid hormone replacement therapy is the mainstay of long-term medical management. Patients treated with total thyroidectomy and some who undergo lobectomy alone require thyroid hormone therapy to restore ...

Thyroid Isthmusectomy for Well-Differentiated Thyroid Cancer

Annals of Surgical Oncology, 2010
The American Thyroid Association guidelines do not mention isthmusectomy as an appropriate procedure for thyroid cancer. Despite this, a small number of patients present with lesions isolated to the thyroid isthmus, which can be excised without exploring the trachyesophageal grooves or total thyroidectomy. This study was designed to analyze outcomes in

Well differentiated thyroid cancer

Current Opinion in Oncology, 2003
Cancers of follicular cell origin are the most common of the endocrine malignancies. Thyroid cancers are seen with increased frequency after radiation exposure and in some familial syndromes. Interestingly, the prognosis of thyroid carcinoma is highly dependent on the age of the patient at the time of examination: several clinical staging systems ...
