Approach to and Treatment of Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma

Medical Clinics of North America, 2012
Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy, although representing fewer than 1% of all human tumors. Differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) includes the papillary and follicular histotypes and their variants, accounting for more than 90% of all thyroid cancers.

Differentiated Thyroid Carcinomas

Archives of Surgery, 1974
During the 26-year period from 1947 to 1973, 333 patients with differentiated thyroid carcinomas were treated with sodium iodide I 131 post-operatively. Thirty-six of these (10.6%) had metastases to lung or bone or both. The mean age at the time of diagnosis was 36.1 years (range, 6 to 69 years). Mortality from thyroid carcinomas was 27.8%.

Preoperative diagnostics in differentiated thyroid carcinoma

Nuklearmedizin, 2017
SummaryAim: The preoperative diagnosis of differentiated thyroid carcinomas (DTC) is particularly challenging in view of the high prevalence of thyroid nodules in the general population. Incidental diagnosis of DTC, on the other hand, can lead to reoperations and increased risk of morbidity.

Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma

2000
Differentiated thyroid carcinomas can be subdivided on the basis of their histological features into papillary and follicular varieties, as well as follicular variants of papillary carcinoma. Nevertheless, treatment with radioiodine is essentially the same for both papillary and follicular tumors.
