Diffraction at RHIC

open access: yesJournal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics, 2002
The relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC) offers many opportunities to study diffraction in pp, pA and AA collisions. Because both proton beams can be polarized, RHIC offers the unique possibility of studying polarization effects in diffraction. We will introduce diffraction at RHIC and present three compelling physics topics: hard diffraction with ...

Deformation Behavior of La2O3‐Doped Copper during Equal Channel Angular Pressing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
By additions of strengthening elements and/or structure optimization, the mechanical properties of copper can be increased while keeping favorable electric conductivity. By combining addition of La2O3 and processing by equal channel angular pressing, substructure development is achieved, leading to increase in microhardness to more than double the ...

Double Diffraction White Light Imaging: First Results with Bidimensional Diffraction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
The double diffraction of white light can produce a thin-prism-like image in certain conditions by using ordinary diffraction gratings. The diffractive deviation of rays happens mainly in one direction because the diffracting elements are straight and parallel.

Machine Learning‐Guided Discovery of Factors Governing Deformation Twinning in Mg–Y Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study uses interpretable machine learning to identify key microstructural and processing parameters related to twinning in magnesium‐yttrium (Mg–Y) alloys. It is identified that using only grain size, grain orientation, and total applied strain, grains can be classified with 84% accuracy based on whether the grain contains a twin.

LIQUID LAYERS MOTION INVESTIGATION

open access: yesВестник Донского государственного технического университета, 2018
The diffraction motion of two layers of the incompressible heavy liquid around the vertical circular support column is investigated. The hard cover approaching is used to distinguish internal wave alone. The research data are extended to the utmost scope

Diffraction at TOTEM

open access: yes, 2008
The TOTEM experiment at the LHC measures the total proton-proton cross section with the luminosity-independent method and the elastic proton-proton cross-section over a wide |t|-range. It also performs a comprehensive study of diffraction, spanning from cross-section measurements of individual diffractive processes to the analysis of their event ...

Super-exponential decay of Diffraction Managed Solitons [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
This is the second part of a series of papers where we develop rigorous decay estimates for breather solutions of an averaged version of the non-linear Schr\"odinger equation. In this part we study the diffraction managed discrete non-linear Schr\"odinger equation, an equation which describes coupled waveguide arrays with periodic diffraction ...
