A variational method for water wave radiation and diffraction problems

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1989
It is shown that the linear and nonlinear exciting force coefficients, the added mass and radiation damping matrices, and the far-field wave amplitude (reflection and transmission coefficients in the two-dimensional case) can all be written as stationary values of well-defined functionals.

On diffraction and radiation problem for two cylinders in water of finite depth

Ocean Engineering, 2006
The hydrodynamic problem arising form the interaction of linear water waves with a wave energy device consisting of two coaxial vertical cylinders of different radii is investigated. One cylinder is riding in waves, while another is submerged in fluid.

On Sommerfeld radiation conditions for the diffraction problem with two unbounded media

Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: Section A Mathematics, 1992
SynopsisA radiation condition is obtained, and is then used together with weighted Sobolev spaces and the limiting absorption method to establish the unique existence of solutions to the diffraction problem for the wave propagation in the case where the propagation speed is piecewise constant, and the surface separating two media is unbounded.

A NURBS Panel Method for Three-Dimensional Radiation and Diffraction Problems

Journal of Ship Research, 2003
A B-spline panel method is developed to solve a boundary integral equation for three-dimensional potential flow problems. In particular, a nonuniform rational B-spline (NURBS) surface is introduced to accommodate a precise geometric description of a given body.

Rays, Dispersion Surfaces and Their Uses for Radiation and Diffraction Problems

SIAM Review, 1970
In certain asymptotic parameter regimes, propagation, radiation and diffraction processes in a linear field may be described locally in terms of plane waves and schematized in terms of rays. Properties of space-time rays descriptive of time-dependent fields in lossless dispersive, isotropic or anisotropic media, and corresponding features of time ...

Analysis of Diffraction-Radiation Problem of a Twin-Hull Barge System

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1995
Ocean wave is an important marine environmental phenomena which influences the performance of a marine structure. This necessitates a detailed hydrodynamic study of the wave-structure interaction problem. In the present work the finite element method has been demonstrated as an effective tool to solve the complex linearised three-dimensional ...

On diffraction and radiation problem for a cylinder over a caisson in water of finite depth

International Journal of Engineering Science, 2004
A caisson and a vertical circular cylinder floating on the surface of fluid compose a wave power device. The hydrodynamic fluid/solid interaction becomes more complex due to the caisson. In this paper, in order to investigate the effects of the caisson on the cylinder's hydrodynamic coefficients and exciting forces, the expressions for velocity ...

Mathematical models of diffraction and radiation problems for planar waveguide with impedance flange

MMET '96. VIth International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory. Proceedings, 2002
The problem of diffraction and radiation for a planar semibounded waveguide with ideally conducting sides and flange has been solved by different methods more than once. In this work the problem is considered in the impedance flange case. The derivation of a singular integral equation is demonstrated in the radiation problem case.
