Space–Time Duality for Fractional Diffusion [PDF]
Zolotarev (1961) proved a duality result that relates stable densities with different indices. In this paper we show how Zolotarev's duality leads to some interesting results on fractional diffusion. Fractional diffusion equations employ fractional derivatives in place of the usual integer-order derivatives.

Aerosol Impact on UV Solar Irradiance and Diffuse Fraction
Aerosols modify the solar irradiance levels in the ultraviolet (UV) spectral band and, as a result, influence the magnitude of the biological effects of solar radiation.

REVISITING THE DERIVATION OF THE FRACTIONAL DIFFUSION EQUATION [PDF]
The fractional diffusion equation is derived from the master equation of continuous time random walks (CTRWs) via a straightforward application of the Gnedenko-Kolmogorov limit theorem. The Cauchy problem for the fractional diffusion equation is solved in various important and general cases.

Strong Local Evaporative Cooling Over Land Due to Atmospheric Aerosols
Aerosols can enhance terrestrial productivity through increased absorption of solar radiation by the shaded portion of the plant canopy—the diffuse radiation fertilization effect.

Tensor FEM for Spectral Fractional Diffusion [PDF]
We design and analyze several Finite Element Methods (FEMs) applied to the Caffarelli-Silvestre extension that localizes the fractional powers of symmetric, coercive, linear elliptic operators in bounded domains with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We consider open, bounded, polytopal but not necessarily convex domains $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d$ with $d=1 ...

Recent observations have reignited interest in a population of dwarf galaxies that are large and diffuse for their mass, often called ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs).

Accurate solar radiation estimates in Alpine areas represent a challenging task, because of the strong variability arising from orographic effects and mountain weather phenomena. These factors, together with the scarcity of observations in elevated areas,

$hp$-Finite Elements for Fractional Diffusion [PDF]
The purpose of this work is to introduce and analyze a numerical scheme to efficiently solve boundary value problems involving the spectral fractional Laplacian. The approach is based on a reformulation of the problem posed on a semi-infinite cylinder in one more spatial dimension.
