Red Fluorescent Protein‐Metal Organic Framework Hybrids for Lighting Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate the encapsulation in a metal‐organic framework (MOF) of two red fluorescent proteins, DsRed and mCherry. The materials conserve all spectroscopical and structural properties of the underlying components, which allows for their implementation as color down‐converting materials in bio‐hybrid light‐emitting diodes, which exhibit average 3 ...

Simulating Nonpoint Source Pollution Impacts in Groundwater: Three-Dimensional Advection–Dispersion Versus Quasi-3D Streamline Transport Approach

open access: yesHydrology
Numerical models are commonly used to support the management of diffuse pollution sources in large agricultural landscapes. This paper investigates the suitability of a three-dimensional groundwater streamline-based nonpoint source (NPS) assessment tool ...

Evaluation of the risk of diffuse pollution of groundwater by nitrogen substances from agricultural land use as background for allocation of effective measures

open access: yesEkológia (Bratislava), 2016
The risk of diffuse pollution of groundwater by nitrogen substances from agricultural land is perceived as a result of the interaction of groundwater vulnerability (determined by the characteristics of the environment overlying groundwater in relation to

Physically-based Animation of Water Pollutant Diffusion

open access: yesJournal of Computers, 2014
We present a physically-based animation method for simulating the diffusion of water pollutant in this paper. Our method allows animating the dynamic evolution of biological pollutants (e.g., water hyacinth, algae) on large-scale water surface effectively. To enable the simulation of such a phenomenon in large scale virtual environment, we simplify the

Cyclodextrin‐Functionalized Light‐Driven Cu2O Micromotors for Simultaneous Capture and Degradation of Bisphenol A

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Fuel‐free Cu2O‐based micromotors functionalized with β‐cyclodextrin actively remove bisphenol A from water under visible light. The cyclodextrin shell captures BPA and enhances micromotor motility, leading to faster degradation and higher overall removal than nonfunctionalized Cu2O and Cu2O@Au.

Animal-based agriculture, phosphorus management and water quality in Brazil: options for the future

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2006
Eutrophication has become a major threat to water quality in the U.S., Europe, and Australasia. In most cases, freshwater eutrophication is accelerated by increased inputs of phosphorus (P), of which agricultural runoff is now a major contributor, due to
