Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Use of derivative diffuse reflectance spectroscopy in CAM assay combined with multivariate analysis as an approach to detect features of vulnerable plaques

open access: yes, 2023
Identifying vulnerable plaques at an early stage is critical to reducing patient mortality associated with cardiovascular diseases. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) can directly measure of absorption and scattering properties of tissue and can ...

Optical Properties of Living Corals Determined With Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
The internal light field and thus light exposure of the photosymbiotic microalgae (Symbiodinium sp.) in corals is strongly modulated by the optical properties of coral tissue and skeleton.

Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy for Surface Measurement of Liver Pathology [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Surgical Research, 2016
<b><i>Background:</i></b> Liver parenchymal injuries such as steatosis, steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and sinusoidal obstruction syndrome can lead to increased morbidity and liver failure after liver resection. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) is an optical measuring method that is fast, convenient, and established.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Determination of atenolol in pharmaceutical formulations by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy

open access: yesEclética Química, 2018
A simple analytical method for quantification of atenolol in pharmaceutical formulations by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy is described. The method is based on the reaction, on the filter paper surface, between the drug and p-chloranil producing a ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Determination of hydrochlorothiazide in pharmaceutical formulations by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy

open access: yesEclética Química, 2018
This paper describes a method for quantitative spot test analysis of hydrochlorothiazide using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The reflectance measurements were performed analyzing the colored compound (l = 585 nm) produced from the reaction between ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...
