Thermal Diffusion and Convective Stability
The Physics of Fluids, 1972The stability of a two-component fluid layer subjected to a temperature gradient has been studied, and the associated thermal diffusion separation has been found to exert a large influence even when the separations are small. The most unexpected and perhaps important result is that an instability has been found which can give rise to convection ...

Convective diffusion of tracers
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1971Abstract Isotopic tracers and the substances which they trace (tracees) are transported by two means. They are entrained by the fluid which carries them, and thus they share the motion of the fluid; and they diffuse at rates and in directions determined by their concentration gradients.

Steady Convective Diffusion in a Bifurcation
IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 1977In a study of the development of atherosclerotic lesions, we investigate convective diffusion along the wall of a modeled arterial bifurcation. Under boundary layer assumptions, the resulting set of equations is transformed into a form to which we can apply Laplace transforms.

Preconditioning convection dominated convection‐diffusion problems
International Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat & Fluid Flow, 1995This paper is concerned with the numerical solution of multi‐dimensional convection dominated convection‐diffusion problems. These problems are characterized by a large parameter, K, multiplying the convection terms. The goal of this work is the development and analysis of effective preconditioners for iteratively solving the large system of linear ...

Double diffusive convection in the diffusive regime
Applied Scientific Research, 1982Numerical solutions to convection of a fluid which is heated, and to which salt is introduced from the bottom, have been obtained. Although different in boundary conditions from the conditions in the study of Huppert and Moore, qualitatively the flow investigated here has many features the same as theirs. The differences are discussed and solutions are

Diffusion and convection in lungs and gills
Respiration Physiology, 1972Abstract An analysis has been made of the inspired-arterial partial pressure difference of a gas transmitted, under steady-state conditions, across lungs and gills regarded as subdivided into a large number of functional units. It is shown that this overall gradient can be expressed as the simple sum of terms representing airway convection, airway ...

The diffusive interface in double-diffusive convection
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1978A model of the diffusive interface in double-diffusive convection at high Rayleigh number is proposed. The interface is assumed to have a double structure: two marginally stable boundary layers from which blobs or thermals arise on the outer edges of the interface, separated by a diffusive core across which all transport takes place by molecular ...

Convective transport in diffusive samplers
Talanta, 1993Convective transport in diffusive samplers was determined by the loss of a dilute dye solution from these samplers while held in a water bath. The water flow in the bath was adjusted to give the same Reynolds number had the diffusive sampler been exposed to an airborne analyte at a predetermined flow velocity. By numerical analysis, estimates were made
