Combustion LES for premixed and diffusion flames

This paper demonstrates the ability of large-eddy simulation (LES) to accurately predict turbulent combustion. A non-premixed bluff-body flame was simulated, relying on the conserved scalar approach and the laminar flamelet concept. The results were found to agree well with experimental data.

The role of diffusion in the rapid combustion of cellulose

Abstract Data that have been published previously for the combustion of cellulose under conditions of rapid heating are analysed in terms of transport processes. Calculations of Reynolds numbers indicate that the flow régime close to the burning cellulose surface is laminar or laminary.

Magnetic promotion of combustion in diffusion flames

Inhomogeneous magnetic fields have been found to promote combustion reactions in diffusion flames. When a fuel gas flowed in the direction of a decreasing field strength, the burning velocity was found to increase. No magnetic effect was observed when it flowed into a homogeneous field.

Reaction-diffusion fronts in heterogeneous combustion

Heterogeneous flames are modeled in a simplified system where the fuel particles are discrete heat sources embedded in an inert, heat conducting medium. Two asymptotic regimes of flame propagation are found and exhibit differences in both the propagation limits and the front speeds.
