Diffusion in a one-dimensional zeolite channel: an analytical and numerical study

open access: yes, 2009
Czaplewski et al. have demonstrated in an experiment that in the presence of strongly adsorbed hydrocarbon molecules inside a narrow, effectively one-dimensional zeolite channel, the effective desorption temperature of the weakly adsorbed hydrocarbon ...

Selective permeability in gels: Beyond the solution-diffusion model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Permeability, a measure of potential transport of macromolecules through crowded media such as hydrogels, determines important control parameters in bio-soft functional material applications, e.g., for filtration, drug release, and transport of reactants

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.

Axon radius measurements in vivo from diffusion MRI: A feasibility study

open access: yes, 2007
This paper investigates the feasibility of using diffusion MRI to measure axon-cell dimensions in the white matter of live subjects. A simple geometric model of white-matter tissue provides an expression that relates the axon radius to the diffusion MRI ...

Effectiveness of rTMS on Working Memory and Inhibitory Impairments in Patients With Post‐Stroke Executive Deficits

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Considerable efforts have been dedicated to developing effective treatments for post‐stroke executive impairment (PSEI), among which repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has shown great potential. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of high‐frequency rTMS on working memory (WM) and response ...

International diffusion of new technology [PDF]

open access: yes
This study explores the international diffusion of new technology i.e. changes over time in the extent to which world output is produced using, or world consumption is made up of products incorporating, specific new technologies.

DDSR: Degradation-Aware Diffusion Model for Spectral Reconstruction from RGB Images

open access: yesRemote Sensing
The reconstruction of hyperspectral images (HSIs) from RGB images is an attractive low-cost approach to recover hyperspectral information. However, existing approaches focus on learning an end-to-end mapping of RGB images and their corresponding HSIs ...

RNA Sequencing Resolves Cryptic Pathogenic Variants in Mitochondrial Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Mitochondrial diseases are the most common inherited metabolic disorders, characterized by pronounced clinical and genetic heterogeneity that complicates molecular diagnosis. Although DNA‐based sequencing approaches have become standard in genetic testing, up to half of patients remain without a definitive diagnosis.

Spectroscopy-guided discovery of three-dimensional structures of disordered materials with diffusion models

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
Spectroscopy techniques such as x-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) provide valuable insights into the atomic structures of materials, yet the inverse prediction of precise structures from spectroscopic data remains a formidable challenge.
