APPLICATIONS OF EXTENDED OPERATORS TO DIFFUSIVE SYSTEMS

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1977
Abstract An optimal control problem in semi-conductor diffusion forms the major application to thispaper. Arguments are presented as to why the extended operator description is useful. A table of combinations of boundary conditions is presented which in conjunction with the heat diffusion equation in one dimension is described by various extended ...

Effective Diffusion for a Parabolic Operator with Periodic Potential

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1993
Summary: The asymptotic behaviour of effective diffusion for a parabolic equation in \(\mathbb{R}^ n\) with periodic potential and small initial diffusion is discussed. The potential is assumed to be localized in periodic islands - - sets around points of the integer lattice in \(\mathbb{R}^ n\), where the density of diffusing particles increases.

Strong Resolvent Convergence of Diffusion Operators

SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1985
Summary: It is shown that differential operators arising from boundary value problems with eigenvalue parameter in the boundary condition occur as the limits, in the sense of a generalized notion of strong resolvent convergence, of families of Sturm-Liouville operators modeling heat flow in a rod, where the diffusion coefficient becomes arbitrarily ...

Time-dependent diffusion operators on L1

Journal of Evolution Equations, 2004
Let \(U\subseteq \mathbb R^d\) (\(d \geq 3\)) be an open set and \(T > 0\). The author considers a general elliptic operator with measurable, time-dependent coefficients: \[ L u := \sum _ {i, j = 1}^ {d} a_ {i j} (t, x) \partial _ {i j} u(t, x) + \sum _ {i = 1}^ {d} b_ {i} (t, x) \partial _ {i} u (t, x) \] (with \(u\in C_ {0}^ {\infty } \left ( (0, T ...

Thé diffuse and atomic components of a positive operator

Siberian Mathematical Journal, 1998
Let \(T\) be a positive operator from a vector lattice \(E\) with sufficiently many band projections into a Dedekind complete vector lattice \(F\). The author calls \(T\) atomic if \(T\) lies in the band generated by the lattice homomorphisms in the space \(L_r(E,F)\) of all regular operators from \(E\) into \(F\).

Operating microscope: diffusion and limits

2012
Objective: To define the diffusion and characteristics of the operating microscope (OM) and magnifying tools among expert endodontists (belonging to the Società Italiana di Endodonzia [SIE]) in Italy and in a sample of general dentists of Naples. Materials and methods: Data were collected by electronic mailing of a questionnaire and subsequent phone ...
