Hydrogenation treatment under several gigapascals assists diffusionless transformation in a face-centered cubic steel [PDF]

open access: goldScientific Reports, 2021
The use of hydrogen in iron and steel has the potential to improve mechanical properties via altering the phase stability and dislocation behavior. When hydrogen is introduced under several gigapascals, a stoichiometric composition of hydrogen can be ...

Diffusionless transformation of soft cubic superstructure from amorphous to simple cubic and body-centered cubic phases [PDF]

open access: goldNature Communications, 2021
The arrangements of defect lines in liquid crystal blue phases provide promising templates for photonic crystals. Here Liu et al. investigate in detail how inter-phase transitions proceed, by intercepting nucleation with on-demand cross linking of a ...

Depressurization-induced diffusionless transformation in pure iron hydrogenated under several gigapascals

open access: goldMaterials Letters: X, 2021
Phase transformation in hydrogenated iron during depressurization from several gigapascals was investigated through in-situ synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction and post-mortem electron backscatter diffraction measurements. The hydrogenated iron under

Shape Memory Effect Driven by Diffusionless and Diffusional Transformations at Elevated Temperatures [PDF]

open access: diamondУспехи физики металлов, 2002
Several alloy systems can be selected for high-temperature shape-memory alloys, defined as alloys with stable reverse martensitic-transformation temperatures above 100°C.

Evolution of the microstructure of cobalt during diffusionless transformation cycles [PDF]

open access: greenJournal of Materials Research, 1990
Differential scanning calorimetry and transmission electron microscopy have been used to study thermal fatigue due to diffusionless phase transformation cycling in pure cobalt. Thermal cycling through the allotropic (hcp ↔ fcc) transformation results in a temperature shift of the calorimetric peaks, which means a delay of the transformation.

Driving diffusionless transformations in colloidal crystals using DNA handshaking [PDF]

open access: bronzeNature Communications, 2012
Many crystals, such as those of metals, can transform from one symmetry into another having lower free energy via a diffusionless transformation. Here we create binary colloidal crystals consisting of polymer microspheres, pulled together by DNA bridges, that induce specific, reversible attractions between two species of microspheres.

INTERNAL FRICTION PHENOMENA ASSOCIATED WITH DIFFUSIONLESS PHASE TRANSFORMATIONS IN ALLOYS

open access: greenLe Journal de Physique Colloques, 1981
Internal friction and ultrasonic attenuation peaks associated with diffusionless phase transformations in alloys, such as thermoelastic martensites and others, were reviewed. They were discussed from the stand point of (1) Understanding the mechanism of the phase transformations and (2) Developing new alloy materials of high damping capacity for ...

Elemental partitioning-mediated crystalline-to-amorphous phase transformation under quasi-static deformation [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications
The transformation induced plasticity phenomenon occurs when one phase transforms to another one during plastic deformation, which is usually diffusionless.
