Heat Stress and feeding strategies in meat-type chickens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Heat stress can induce hyperthermia in poultry. A reduction in heat load can be achieved by increasing the possibilities for dissipation, decreasing the level of heat production or by changing the thermal production pattern within a day.

Exploring Patients’ Profiles Associated With the Resolution of Acute Calcium Pyrophosphate Arthritis Treated With Colchicine and Prednisone: Post Hoc Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective was to identify factors determining acute arthritis resolution and safety with colchicine and prednisone in acute calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) crystal arthritis. Methods We conducted a post hoc analysis of the COLCHICORT trial, which compared colchicine and prednisone for the treatment of acute CPP crystal arthritis, using a ...

Pancreatic adaptive responses in alcohol abuse: Role of the unfolded protein response. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The majority of those who drink excessive amounts of alcohol do not develop pancreatic disease. One overarching hypothesis is that alcohol abuse requires additional risk factors, either environmental or genetic, for disease to occur.

Serum Soluble Mediator Signatures of Lupus Nephritis: Histologic Features and Response to Treatment

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Lupus nephritis (LN) management remains challenging, and novel noninvasive biomarkers are needed. This study quantified serum soluble mediators in the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) LN cohort to identify biomarkers of histologic features and treatment response.

TISSUE-DIGESTING ENZYME (HISTASE) OF STREPTOCOCCI [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 1926
1. An extracellular, proteolytic enzyme has been observed in more than 30 strains of beta type, aerobic and facultative hemolytic streptococci. 2. The enzyme is readily demonstrable in sterile filtrates of cooked meat cultures. 3. No gas or foul odor is produced. 4. It is partially inactivated by exposure to

Lipid Nanoparticles for the Delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 Machinery to Enable Site‐Specific Integration of CFTR and Mutation‐Agnostic Disease Rescue

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are optimized to co‐deliver Cas9‐encoding messenger RNA (mRNA), a single guide RNA (sgRNA) targeting the endogenous cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene, and homologous linear double‐stranded donor DNA (ldsDNA) templates encoding CFTR.

Studies on Digestive Enzymes of Fishes-II

open access: yesNIPPON SUISAN GAKKAISHI, 1971
The activities of various kinds of carbohydrases in the digestive organs of several fishes were determined with TAUBER-KLEINER's method modified by the authors. The results obtained were as follows. Adult carp showed marked maltase, amylase, and weak sucrase, lactase, melibiase, cellobiase and methyl-α-D-glucosidase activities in the intestine.
