A short wave radar beam sharpening method based on generalised oblique projection operator with flexible parameter

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar &Navigation, Volume 18, Issue 7, Page 1132-1144, July 2024.
A new narrow beam method based on the generalised oblique projection is proposed. The method proposed has the characteristics of a narrow beam width and big side lobe suppression ratio and is applicable to practical applications with a limited array aperture.

Improving estimation performance of compressive sensing‐based multiple‐input multiple‐output radar using electronic beamsteering

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar &Navigation, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 891-903, June 2024.
The authors deal with direction‐of‐arrival (DoA) estimation of obstacles in the field‐of‐view (FoV) using compressive sensing (CS) and compares multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) radar signal processing with a codebook‐based electronic beamsteering approach for compact radar sensors in future urban air mobility.

A Novel Real-Time Multi-Channel Error Calibration Architecture for DBF-SAR

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Digital Beamforming SAR (DBF-SAR) provides high-resolution wide-swath imaging capability, yet it is affected by inter-channel amplitude, phase and time-delay errors induced by temperature variations and random error factors.

Urban traffic congestion alleviation system based on millimeter wave radar and improved probabilistic neural network

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar &Navigation, Volume 18, Issue 2, Page 327-343, February 2024.
The authors propose an urban traffic congestion alleviation system based on millimeter wave radar and improved probabilistic neural network. And actual traffic light control case is provided to verify the performance of the proposed radar system. Abstract The millimeter‐wave radar sensor is widely used for urban traffic surveillance because of its ...

Analysis and Design of a Multiplex, Delay‐and‐Sum (MDAS) Beamformer Architecture to Implement a Fixed‐Focus Receive Beamformer for Portable Ultrasound Imaging Systems

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
A multiplex, delay‐and‐sum (MDAS) architecture is proposed to implement a fixed‐focus receive beamformer such as the first stage of the synthetic aperture sequential beamforming (P‐SASB) and synthetic transmit beams combined with the P‐SASB (STB‐P‐SASB) beamforming methods.

A Low‐Cost Wideband Digital Array Antenna Based on Stretch Processing Technique

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Wideband digital phased array radar offers the advantages of high range resolution, which improves the recognition ability for multiple targets, group targets, and high‐speed targets. Traditional wideband phased arrays use true time delay to compensate for aperture fill time; however, the cost increases significantly.

A Spaceborne Ka‐Band Earth‐Coverage Phased Array Antenna Based on DBF‐Shared Subarray for LEO Communications

open access: yesInternational Journal of RF and Microwave Computer-Aided Engineering, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
A spaceborne Earth‐coverage phased array (ECPA) antenna at Ka‐band is proposed for low‐Earth orbit (LEO) satellite applications, which is based on digital beamforming (DBF) partially shared subarray architecture to implement two stages of DBF. By taking into account the effects of mutual coupling in active element pattern optimization, a new method to ...

Digital beamforming to mitigate automotive radar interference

open access: yes, 2016
Interference between automotive radars decreases the sensors’ detection capabilities. It is possible to use digital beamforming (DBF) in multi-antenna systems to reduce the power received from certain directions of arrival (DoA).
