An Introduction to Digital Cameras

Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, 2001
People in all walks of life are using digital cameras instead of the traditional film cameras. Reasons include simplicity of use, ease of development, ability to incorporate the pictures into documents, potential to edit the pictures easily, and capability to send them by e-mail.

MEMS digital camera

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
MEMS technology uses photolithography and etching of silicon wafers to enable mechanical structures with less than 1 mm tolerance, important for the miniaturization of imaging systems. In this paper, we present the first silicon MEMS digital auto-focus camera for use in cell phones with a focus range of 10 cm to infinity.

Digital Pinhole Camera

The Physics Teacher, 2014
In this article we describe how the classic pinhole camera demonstration can be adapted for use with digital cameras. Students can easily explore the effects of the size of the pinhole and its distance from the sensor on exposure time, magnification, and image quality.

Digital Camera Identification

2007 IEEE 15th Signal Processing and Communications Applications, 2007
In this work, we focus on blind identification of digital cameras used in cellular phones. Since cellular phones are so widely deployed, we thus indirectly bring a solution to their authentication. Digital cameras possess a chain of processing operations such as signal quantization, white balance, demosaicking, color correction, gamma correction ...

Digital still cameras

IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, 1999
This paper presents an interpolation method for digital still cameras (DSCs) which is based on color signal correlation. The authors have developed a method of reducing aliasing by increasing the resolution of color signals in DSCs that use a single-plate charge coupled device (CCD) with a primary color filter array. The new method interpolates signals

Cameras for Digital Microscopy

2003
This chapter reviews the fundamental characteristics of charge-coupled devices (CCDs) and related detectors, outlines the relevant parameters for their use in microscopy, and considers promising recent developments in the technology of detectors. Electronic imaging with a CCD involves three stages--interaction of a photon with the photosensitive ...

Evaluating digital cameras

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
The quality of digital cameras has undergone a magnificent development during the last 10 years. So have the methods to evaluate the quality of these cameras. At the time the first consumer digital cameras were released in 1996, the first ISO standards on test procedures were already on their way.
