Design thinking for digital fabrication in education

International Journal of Child-Computer Interaction, 2015
In this paper, we argue that digital fabrication in education may benefit from design thinking, to foster a more profound understanding of digital fabrication processes among students. Two related studies of digital fabrication in education are presented in the paper.

Digital Digital Fabrication Fabrication: Remote collaborative teaching and learning in advanced fabrication

Empower, 2022
Many schools of architecture are facing a pressing issue: How do we offer access to fabrication in an equitable and inclusive manner? Furthermore, how can we create a sustainable, pedagogical model for our institutions to share knowledge about machinery and fabrication processes that are often inaccessible?

A Grammar of Digital Fabrication Machines

Extended Abstracts of the 2021 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2021
Digital fabrication tools for makers have increased access to manufacturing processes such as 3D printing and computer-controlled laser cutting or milling. Despite research advances in novel hardware and software tools for fabrication tasks, there is no formal way to reason about the fabrication machine itself.

Impediments to Digital Fabrication in Education

International Journal of Digital Literacy and Digital Competence, 2016
Digital fabrication technologies are increasingly integrated across subjects in primary and secondary education. Focus on the potentials of these technologies has mainly been on the support to STEM oriented learning goals, while emphasis on teachers' roles with the new learning processes of technology and design is largely absent.

Digital Imaging and Fabrication

Dental Clinics of North America, 2014
Bioceramics have been adopted in dental restorations for implants, bridges, inlays, onlays, and all-ceramic crowns. Dental bioceramics include glass ceramics, reinforced porcelains, zirconias, aluminas, fiber-reinforced ceramic composites, and multilayered ceramic structures. The process of additive manufacturing is ideally suited to dentistry.

Digital fabrication and digital design

2021

Digitally fabricated aesthetic enhancements and enrichments

AI & SOCIETY, 2020
In this paper, we explore digitally fabricated aesthetic enhancements and modifications of the body as well as digitally fabricated fauna habitats. We will address how we utilize speculative works through our bio inspired digitally fabricated designs via two of our most recent projects: {skin} D.E.E.P. and in silico et in situ.

Interactive fabrication

Proceedings of the fifth international conference on Tangible, embedded, and embodied interaction, 2010
We present a series of prototype devices that use real-time input to fabricate physical form: Interactive Fabrication. Our work maps out the problem space of real-time control for digital fabrication devices, and examines where alternative interfaces for digital fabrication are relevant.

Digital imaging in the fabrication of ocular prostheses

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2006
Several ocular and orbital disorders require surgical intervention that may result in ocular defects. The associated psychological effect of these defects on the patient requires immediate management and rehabilitation intervention by a team of specialists. The role of the maxillofacial prosthodontist in fabricating an ocular prosthesis with acceptable
