We live in a society that deals with information overload in a 24/7 environment. If information overload is defined as receiving too much information, reference overload may be considered the opposite, wherein the library inadvertently offers too many relevant resources to its users.

2013 IEEE 56th International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), 2013
A digital bandgap reference that provides a programmable reference voltage output is presented. It uses the same idea as an analog bandgap circuit except that the three operations of differencing, scaling and addition are done in the digital domain after converting the operands, the analog junction-diode voltages, into numbers.

Libri, 2002
The World Wide Web has emerged as a powerful tool to enhance navigation and communication over the Internet. Within the past few years, numerous Web-based digital reference services have been established by libraries. The goal of this study is to identify user needs as reflected in the queries they submit to these services.

Reference Encoding of Correlated Digital Sources
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1978A reference code, with an associated bound on the code rate, for the encoding of correlated digital sources is introduced. The reference code is adaptive and simple to implement. Image coding results obtained using concatenated trellis and reference encoding are presented.

The Reference Librarian, 2002
Summary This article discusses the fallacy that real-time and asynchronous digital reference software are fundamentally different. Instead the author argues that the only real difference is lag time, and that this difference does not support the separation of digital reference functions.

Medical Reference Services Quarterly, 2005
Two years after the initial 2002 study, a greater number of academic health science libraries are offering digital reference chat services, and this number appears poised to grow in the coming years. This 2004 follow-up study found that 36 (27%) of the academic health science libraries examined provide digital chat reference services; this was an ...
