Multiscale Digital Rock Analysis for Complex Rocks

Transport in Porous Media, 2021
Many properties of complex porous media such as reservoir rocks are strongly affected by heterogeneity at different scales. Complex depositional and diagenetic processes have a strong control on the pore structures, leading to systems with a wide range of pore sizes covering many orders of magnitude in length scales.

Rock property determination using digital rock physics

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2003, 2003
The Digital Rock Physics (DRP) technology is based on a rigorous numerical simulation of physical experiments in a realistic pore space, at the pore-scale level. The output is usually a macroscopic property conventionally measured in the lab. For example, a single-phase viscous fluid flow simulation through a digitized pore space provides absolute ...

Predictive digital rock physics

2021
Geophysical surveys are the most effective way to model the surface and subsurface. Recorded signals can only be converted to properties of interest, such as rock type or saturating fluid, if we understand the relationship between rocks and their physical properties.

Digital rock-dust meter

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1989
This article describes the design of a digital rock-dust meter suitable for measuring the rock-dust content in coal-rock-dust mixtures in a mine environment. The work discusses the probe, digital circuitry, and equations used by the instrument. Data from several mines verifying the 2% accuracy of the device is also presented.

Application of Digital Rock Physics for Geophysical Rock Properties

Proceedings, 2012
Traditionally, the values of reservoir rock properties have been acquired from log data or direct measurement in a physical laboratory. Recent advances in imaging and image processing, together with improved availability of high performance computing, gave rise to digital techniques for investigating the properties of rock samples.

Predictive digital rock physics without segmentation

Computers & Geosciences, 2022
Abstract Measuring physical properties from rock samples is necessary in geosciences to calibrate models from geophysical surveys. Digital rock physics is one way to estimate these properties. X-ray computed tomography (CT) images can be used to create 3D numerical models of rocks.

Digital Rock Physics for Reservoir Characterization

13th International Congress of the Brazilian Geophysical Society & EXPOGEF, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 26–29 August 2013, 2013
The Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH) is responsible for structuring and promoting opportunities for exploration and exploitation of the Colombian subsoil. The agency also assumes functions that emphasize the management of those resources, and proposes studies and research in the areas of geology and geophysics to generate new knowledge in the ...

Elastic Properties of Carbonate Reservoir Rocks Using Digital Rock Physics

Proceedings, 2013
Digital rock physics (DRP) is a new method which determines rock properties, including elastic moduli and acoustic velocities. The concept is to generate representative 3D digital models of the rock structure at different relevant scales and then calculate numerically the corresponding macroscopic properties.

A (Digital) Future for Saharan Rock Art?

African Archaeological Review, 2018
First visited by westerners in the mid-nineteenth century, Saharan rock art has since received a great deal of attention. The richness and diversity of this region is recognised by the inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage list of three properties: Tassili-n-Ajjer in Algeria, Tadrart Acacus in Libya, and Ennedi in Chad.
