Evaluation of the Potency of Anti-HIV and Anti-HCV Drugs to Inhibit P-Glycoprotein Mediated Efflux of Digoxin in Caco-2 Cell Line and Human Precision-Cut Intestinal Slices

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2022
The inhibition of P-glycoprotein (ABCB1) could lead to increased drug plasma concentrations and hence increase drug toxicity. The evaluation of a drug’s ability to inhibit ABCB1 is complicated by the presence of several transport-competent sites within ...

DIGOXIN TOXICITY COMPARED WITH MYOCARDIAL DIGOXIN AND POTASSIUM CONCENTRATION [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, 1978
Twenty‐nine dogs were given digoxin (0.25 mg) by mouth twice daily for eight days. Some of them (group 1) also received diuretics and others (group 2) a mineralocorticoid. The dogs were then given an intravenous bolus injection of digoxin and plasma and cardiac muscle were analysed for digoxin and potassium.

Evaluation of the Anti-Mycobacterial and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of the New Cardiotonic Steroid γ-Benzylidene Digoxin-15 in Macrophage Models of Infection

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Cardiotonic steroids modulate various aspects of the inflammatory response. The synthetic cardiotonic steroid γ-benzylidene digoxin 15 (BD-15), a digoxin derivative, has emerged as a promising candidate with potential immunomodulatory effects.

Effects of Age, Gender, and Comorbid Diseases on Serum Digoxin Levels During Digoxin Treatment

open access: yesBezmiâlem Science, 2018
Objective:Digoxin is widely used in controlling ventricular rhythm in atrial fibrillation and heart failure. Therapeutic serum levels of digoxin are 0.5–2 ng/mL. Toxicity may occur after acute accidental or suicidal ingestion or with chronic therapy.

Treatment of Aluminium Phosphide Poisoning with a Combination of Intravenous Glucagon, Digoxin and Antioxidant Agents

open access: yesSultan Qaboos University Medical Journal, 2016
Aluminium phosphide (AlP) is used to protect stored grains from rodents. It produces phosphine gas (PH3), a mitochondrial poison thought to cause toxicity by blocking the cytochrome c oxidase enzyme and inhibiting oxidative phosphorylation, which results
