Progressive Dilution of Point Clouds Considering the Local Relief for Creation and Storage of Digital Twins of Cultural Heritage

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Currently, the creation of digital copies (digital twins) of various objects by remote sensing methods producing point clouds is becoming commonplace. This might be particularly important for the digital preservation of historical objects.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Conceptual and Methodological Concerns in the Theory of Perceptual Load

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2013
The present paper provides a short critical review of the theory of perceptual load. It closely examines the basic tenets and assumptions of the theory and identifies major conceptual and methodological problems that have been largely ignored in the ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

A Review on Fusion Welding of Dissimilar Ferritic/Austenitic Steels: Processing and Weld Zone Metallurgy

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
Dissimilar welds between ferritic and austenitic steels represent a good solution for exploiting the best performance of stainless steels at high and low temperatures and in aggressive environments, while minimizing costs. Therefore, they are widely used

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Effects of welding parameters on percentage dilution and mechanical properties in welded joints of ultra-high hardness armour steels [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mining and Metallurgy. Section B: Metallurgy
This study investigates the effects of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) parameters—specifically welding speed and stickout— on the dilution and mechanical properties of welded joints composed of ultra-high hardness quenched and tempered (UHH-Q&T) armor steel

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Study on three-dimensional movement and dilution of a vertical round jet under the wave-current effect

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan, 2017
The flow and dilution of a vertical round jet under the combined effect of wave and current are investigated by using the three dimensional large eddy simulation model, and the wave effect on the 3-D concentration characteristics of the jet is discussed.
