Summary Microbial populations in nature often form organized multicellular structures (biofilms, colonies) occupying different surfaces including host tissues and medical devices. How yeast cells within such populations cooperate and how their dimorphic switch to filamentous growth is regulated are therefore ...

Fungal Genetics and Biology, 2013
Dimorphism is the property of fungi to grow as budding yeasts or mycelium, depending on the environmental conditions. This phenomenon is important as a model of differentiation in eukaryotic organisms, and since a large number of fungal diseases are caused by dimorphic fungi, its study is important for practical reasons.

High-pressure phase transformations between the polymorphic forms I, II, III, and IIIb of CaCOinf3/inf were investigated by analytical in situ high-pressure high-temperature experiments on oriented single-crystal samples. All experiments at non-ambient conditions were carried out by means of Raman scattering, X-ray, and synchrotron diffraction ...

[Dimorphic (transitional-anaplastic) ductal cancer of the prostate].
Arkhiv patologii, 1984Prostatic carcinoma of a specific structure with widespread metastasis in a 7 year-old patient who was treated with oestrogens and survived more than 4 years after the appearance of the first symptoms is described. Histologically in the primary tumour the combination of highly differentiated transitional-cell carcinoma (without cell degeneration and ...

Candida albicans, a prevalent opportunistic fungal pathogen, employs dimorphic transition (yeast-to-hypha) as a central strategy for host tissue invasion and immune evasion. Although prior studies have linked ADH1 deletion to attenuated virulence phenotypes such as impaired hyphal formation, the molecular mechanism underlying this phenomenon remains ...

Interaction of monensin on dimorphic transition and hyphal growth in Candida albicans.
Microbios, 1994Monensin, an exocytosis perturber, was assayed on the dimorphic fungus Candida albicans in order to study its effects on wall synthesis and morphogenesis. In the presence of the drug, both germ-tube formation and hyphal elongation were markedly inhibited according to the dose and exposure time.

Sporothrix schenckii is a pathogenic fungus that undergoes a dimorphic transition from yeast to mycelium in response to environmental conditions such as cell density, temperature, and calcium. We identified a homolog of the Pho85 cyclin-dependent kinase (Cdk) that mediates cellular responses to environmental conditions in other organisms.

Dimorphic transition in Yarrowia lipolytica isolated from oil-polluted sea water
Mycological Research, 1998Fungal cultures isolated from oil-polluted sea water near Mumbai, India have been studied for their capability to degrade crude oil. A yeast isolate identified as Yarrowia lipolytica was further investigated with respect to its dimorphic behaviour and alkane degradation. Y. lipolytica NCIM 3589 in the yeast form degraded the aliphatic fraction of crude
