In this paper we describe the design and performance of diode-pumped organic lasers based on the poly(paraphenylene-vinylene) derivative MEH-PPV. To achieve the very low oscillation thresholds required for direct diode pumping, we use a novel surface-emitting distributed Bragg reflector cavity.

A pulsed Nd:LMA laser has been demonstrated using laser diode array pumping. This material is attractive since high Nd concentrations can be achieved while maintaining a reasonable upper laser level lifetime. Experimental results for a-axis pumping of this uniaxial material show potential for high efficiency.

Diode-pumped continuous-wave Nd:glass laser
Optics Letters, 1986We report on diode-laser pumping of monolithic Nd:glass laser oscillators. End pumping with a single-stripe diode laser, a threshold of 2.2 mW, and a slope efficiency of 42% were observed on a 2-mm-long oscillator with a mode radius of 35 microm. The oscillator generated 2.5 mW of single-ended output power in many (>20) axial modes.

Diode-Pumped Organic Semiconductor Microcone Laser
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2011We report laser action from conical polymeric microcavities. A thin film of the organic semiconductor tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3) doped with the laser dye 4-dicyanmethylene-2-methyl-6-(p-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM) on top of the microcones enables low-threshold lasing when pumped with a conventional blu-ray laser diode.
