Diogenes kakeroma, a new species of hermit crab (Decapoda: Anomura: Diogenidae) from Amami Islands, Ryukyu Islands, southern Japan

Zootaxa
A new species of the diogenid hermit crab genus Diogenes Dana, 1851, D. kakeroma, is described and illustrated based on material from shallow subtidal waters (2–4 m deep) in Amami Islands, Ryukyu Islands, southern Japan.

FECUNDITY OF THREE SYMPATRIC POPULATIONS OF HERMIT CRABS (DECAPODA, ANOMURA, DIOGENIDAE)

Crustaceana, 2001
[The fecundity of three coexisting hermit crab populations (of Clibanarius antillensis, C.sclopetarius, and C. vittatus) was studied in the intertidal region of Pernambuco Islet, Sao Sebastiao Channel, southeastern Brazil. Fecundity of all species was positively correlated to the size of the individuals.

IN PURSUIT OF J. F. W. HERBST'S SPECIES OF DIOGENES (ANOMURA: PAGURIDEA: DIOGENIDAE)

Journal of Crustacean Biology, 2001
Abstract Species of the hermit crab genus Diogenes that either were described by Herbst or attributed to him have been reevaluated, and the ambiguity, both in matters of species authorship and species identity, have been assessed. The species that Herbst incorrectly identified as Cancer diogenes Linnaeus has not, to date, received an available name ...

Short- and long-term salinity challenge, osmoregulatory ability, and (Na+, K+)-ATPase kinetics and α-subunit mRNA expression in the gills of the thinstripe hermit crab Clibanarius symmetricus (Anomura, Diogenidae).

Comparative biochemistry and physiology. Part A, Molecular & integrative physiology, 2018
The evolutionary history of the Crustacea reveals ample adaptive radiation and the subsequent occupation of many osmotic niches resulting from physiological plasticity in their osmoregulatory mechanisms.

Zootaxa, 2019
Trindade and Martin Vaz (TMV) is a highly isolated, oceanic volcanic archipelago located some 1200 km off the Brazilian coast and about 4200 km away from the nearest African coast.

Phylogenetic and phylogeographic inferences based on two DNA markers reveal geographic structure of the orangeclaw hermit crab Calcinus tibicen (Anomura: Diogenidae) in the western Atlantic

Marine Biology Research, 2018
The hermit crab Calcinus tibicen has an extensive distribution along the coasts of the western Atlantic Ocean, from the USA to southern Brazil. The present study aimed to test the hypothesis of the presence of phylogeographic structure of C.

A reexamination of adults and larval stages of Diogenes nitidimanus (Crustacea: Decapoda: Anomura: Diogenidae)

Zootaxa, 2008
A redescription of adult and larval stages of diogenid hermit crab Diogenes nitidimanus Terao, 1913 is presented. Morphological similarities suggest that D. nitidimanus is allied to D. avarus Heller, 1865, D. granulatus Miers, 1880, D. ovatus Miers, 1881, D. pugilator (Roux, 1838) and D. rectimanus Miers, 1884. Diogenes nitidimanus can be distinguished
