Non-dipolar magnetic fields in Ap stars

open access: yes, 2008
An arbitrary initial magnetic field in an A star evolves into a stable equilibrium. Simulations are presented of the formation of non-axisymmetric equilibria consisting of twisted flux tubes meandering under the surface of the star, and analytic arguments are given relating the stability and form of these equilibria.

LiHoF4 as a spin-half non-standard quantum Ising system

open access: yesSciPost Physics
LiHoF$_{4}$ is a magnetic material known for its Ising-type anisotropy, making it a model system for studying quantum magnetism. However, the theoretical description of LiHoF$_{4}$ using the quantum Ising model has shown discrepancies in its phase ...

Non-Dipolar Components of Pulsar Magnetic Fields

open access: yes, 2010
The recent observations indicate that the presence of non-dipolar pulsars magnetic fields. Post-Newtonian approximation(PN) used in solving Einstein’s field equation in general relativity was made to derive the much more complicated non-dipolar pulsar ...

Photocatalytic Solar Hydrogen Peroxide Production on Donor+Acceptor Linear Polymer Semiconductor Powders Reconfigurable by H‐Bonding and π‐Stacking Interactions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A linear polymer, poly(2,3‐dihydroxynaphthalene), when insolubilized, leads to self‐assembly into a hydroquinone–quinone donor+acceptor semiconducting architecture through H‐bonding and π‐stacking interactions. The polymer behaves as a heterogeneous photocatalyst in water for H2O2 production via water oxidation and O2 reduction under visible light.

More stable yet bimodal geodynamo during the Cretaceous superchron?

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2016
We report palaeomagnetic and 40Ar/39Ar dating results from two sequences of basaltic lava flows deposited at the same locality in western China, yet separated in time by ~50 Myr: one set lies within the Cretaceous normal superchron at 112–115 Ma and a ...

Dynamics of dipolar spinor condensates in the external magnetic field

open access: yesActa Physica Sinica, 2008
The equilibrium populations and the coherent off-equilibrium spin mixing with dipole-dipole interaction dynamics in an external magnetic field are investigated. By adjusting the external magnetic field, spin-exchange interaction and the aspect ratio of the potential well we can control the tunneling of the hyperfine components, the oscillation of the ...

Equilibria and oscillations of magnetised neutron stars

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate equilibrium configurations and oscillation spectra of neutron stars, modelled as rotating magnetised fluid bodies in Newtonian gravity. We also explorethe idea that these model neutron stars could have dynamics analogous to rigid-bodyfree ...

Investigations of polymer dynamics in nanoporous media by field cycling NMR relaxometry and the dipolar correlation effect

open access: yes, 2020
The chain dynamics of short-chain perfluoropolyether melts confined in Vycor nanoporous media has been characterized by field cycling nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometry and the dipolar correlation effect.
