Anomalous Orientation of Dipolar Particle in Shear and Magnetic Field

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 2006
We found, by numerical simulation, an anomalous behavior in the average magnetic moment of a dilute suspension of magnetic particles of elongated shape under shear flow. In a shear flow \(\mathbf{v}=\dot{\gamma} y \mathbf{e}_{x}\), ( e x being the unit vector in x direction), upon the application of the magnetic field in y direction, magnetic moment ...

Dipolar magnetic field effects in NMR spectra of liquids

Chemical Physics Letters, 1982
Abstract Dipolar magnetic field effects have been detected in the NMR spectra of coronene and methylpyropheophorbide in liquid solution. These effects arise from the partial molecular alignment induced by the magnetic field. Both 1H-1H and 13C-1H couplings have been detected.

Auroral counterpart of magnetic field dipolarizations in Saturn's tail

Planetary and Space Science, 2013
Following magnetic reconnection in a planetary magnetotail, newly closed field lines can be rapidly accelerated back towards the planet, becoming “dipolarized” in the process. At Saturn, dipolarizations are initially identified in magnetometer data by looking for a southward turning of the magnetic field, indicating the transition from a radially ...

Dipolar excitons in a potential trap in a magnetic field

Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics, 2014
The conditions for observing the Zeeman spin splitting compensation in an exciton Bose gas have been investigated. The magnetoluminescence of spatially indirect, dipolar excitons in a 25-nm-wide GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well upon their accumulation in a lateral electrostatic trap has been studied in the Faraday geometry. The critical magnetic field B

Capture of a dipolar magnetic field by laser-produced plasma

Quantum Electronics, 2021
AbstractWe describe an experiment on the interaction of a dipolar magnetic field with the laser plasma flow produced inside of a laboratory magnetosphere. This interaction is found to exhibit two dynamic stages: after a prompt displacement of the dipole field by the laser plasma, the magnetic field is captured and carried outside of the magnetosphere ...

Equilibrium of a gravitating plasma in a dipolar magnetic field

Physics Letters A, 1999
Abstract The equilibria of plasma in a dipolar magnetic field under the gravitational influence of a massive body (a star or black hole) and a self gravitating plasma are considered. Analytical solutions are found that can be useful for understanding the physics of plasma flows in accretion disks and star formation.

Dipolar field effect on magnetic field-induced phase transitions

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 1992
Abstract The concept of the intermediate state arising due to the demagnetizing field has been used in order to describe magnetic field-induced first-order reorientation transitions. Special attention is devoted to the nucleation mechanisms and their effect on the magnetization curve.

Effect of Dipolar Interactions for Domain-Wall Dynamics in Magnetic Thin Films

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2010
We study the effect of long-range dipolar forces on the dynamics and morphology of domain walls in magnetic thin films by numerical simulations of the spin-1 random-field Ising model.

Dipolar field and energy anisotropy in magnetic thin films

Physical Review B, 2003
The formalism for dipolar field calculations in thin films is addressed. It is shown that in the limit of very thin films the separation of the dipolar field contribution perpendicular to the film plane cannot be split into a shape contribution and a lattice contribution.

The Ohmic decay of dipolar toroidal magnetic fields of magnetars

Astronomische Nachrichten, 2019
AbstractBy considering the general relativity effect, we calculated the dipolar toroidal magnetic field decay rates and investigated the LX − Lrot relationship of 22 magnetars with soft X‐ray luminosities. It is found that, for magnetars with LX < Lrot, their observed soft X‐ray emissions may come from the rotational energy loss rate, or from ...
