A molecular dipstick?

Nature Structural Biology, 1997
The first mammalian lipoxygenase crystal structure reveals the surprising presence of an N-terminal β-barrel domain that is highly similar to the C-terminal domain of pancreatic Upases. The non-haem iron-containing catalytic domain is a compact version of the soybean lipoxygenase-1 major domain.

Evaluation of dipsticks for the assessment of microhaematuria

Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 1984
Three types of dipstick were evaluated for the detection of microhaematuria. One type showed no false positives with erythrocyte-free urine, and no false negatives with a urine erythrocyte concentration of 20 X 10(6)/l using 5-10 X 10(6)/l as limit. This pattern of readings was produced by all the observers, thus indicating that method variation was ...

“Routine urinalysis.” is the dipstick enough?

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1985
To the Editor.— Shaw et al1advocate using leukocyte esterase-measuring dipsticks for "routine urinalyses" and reading the results at five minutes to increase the sensitivity of detecting abnormal urine sediment. They define abnormal sediment as any red blood cells, casts, yeast, or more than three white blood cells (WBCs) per high-power field.

Electron-Spin-Resonance Dipstick

Analytical Chemistry, 2018
Electron spin resonance (ESR) is a powerful analytical technique used for the detection, quantification, and characterization of paramagnetic species ranging from stable organic free radicals and defects in crystals to gaseous oxygen. Traditionally, ESR requires the use of complex instrumentation, including a large magnet and a microwave resonator in ...

How to use… urine dipsticks

Archives of disease in childhood - Education & practice edition, 2016
'Urine dipstick', the commonly used point-of-care test, is an extremely sensitive investigation.
