Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

From infrared to ultraviolet: Direct laser interference patterning of additively manufactured titanium alloy using a picosecond laser

open access: yes, 2022
Medical implants, such as dental screws or hip stems, are made of biocompatible materials so that they can be well integrated into living organisms. For instance, titanium and its alloys offer high biocompatibility and osseointegration, making these ...

The Tale of the Residual Tail: Insights From Continuous Intracranial Monitoring From Post‐Hippocampectomy Dynamics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Subtotal hippocampal resection can leave residual hippocampal tissue, yet the immediate postoperative electrophysiologic evolution of such remnants is unknown. We describe a patient with drug‐resistant temporal lobe epilepsy in whom a hippocampal remnant was continuously monitored using a responsive neurostimulator (RNS) following subtotal ...

Maximizing the efficiency of laser-fabricated diffraction gratings on PET using direct laser interference patterning

open access: yes, 2022
Paper 112680Z, 9 S.Recently, product protection and tracking became increasingly important due to the spread of piracy and counterfeiting. A common anti-counterfeiting procedure is embedding holographic motives or logos onto the good.

Screening Routine Clinical Notes for Epilepsy Surgery Candidates Using Large Language Models

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Epilepsy surgery is severely underutilized despite proven efficacy, with substantial under‐referral of eligible patients in routine clinical practice. This study evaluated the potential role of large language models (LLMs) as decision‐support tools for screening unstructured clinical notes to identify epilepsy surgery candidates and ...

Enhanced Growth of ZDDP-Based Tribofilms on Laser-Interference Patterned Cylinder Roller Bearings

open access: yesLubricants, 2017
Laser surface texturing has been successfully applied in the past to various machine elements in order to improve their tribological performance. In this study, direct laser interference patterning was used to produce periodic cross-like surface patterns

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Surface functionalization of forming using direct laser interference patterning for dry forming applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Forming processes typically require the use of lubricants to reduce friction and wear of the tools as well as to protect the semi-finished products. Since cleaning of forming products is costly and time-expensive, there is a need to eliminate the use of ...
