Direct Methanol–Hydrogen Fuel Cell

Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters, 2007
We report a regime of direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) operation. Measurements of local current show that with a lack of oxygen, the cell splits into three domains. Close to the inlet of the oxygen channel, the cell generates current in a normal DMFC mode (galvanic domain, GD).

Systematic Experimental Analysis of a Direct Methanol Fuel Cell

Journal of Fuel Cell Science and Technology, 2006
Different studies are carried out to compare the performances of different fuel cell constructive materials and operating conditions. In this work, a methodology for the characterization of DMFC experimental results in term of uncertainty and repeatability and for a systematic analysis of operating condition influence on performance is presented.

Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Durability

2009
This chapter provides an overview of performance durability issues typically occurring in the direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC), in both single cells and short DMFC stacks. The focus of this chapter is on those sources of performance degradation that have been recognized as impacting DMFC operation in a major way (1) the loss of cathode activity due to ...

Catalysts for Direct Methanol Fuel Cells

Fuel Cells, 2002
The activity of in house prepared carbon-supported Pt-Ru catalysts for methanol oxidation and carbon-supported RuSe for the oxygen reduction reaction in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) was investigated. The composition of Pt-Ru/C was varied both in terms of weight loading (ratio of total metal content to carbon) as well as the ratio of Pt to Ru. The

Operation of Direct Methanol Fuel Cells

Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters, 2003
A simple and effective procedure is provided to prevent a direct methanol fuel cell from deterioration during overnight idle period. The procedure includes purging cathode and/or anode using a gas before the cell is shut down. The procedure can also be performed before the cell is restarted if purging was not carried out before the cell was shut down ...

The direct methanol fuel cell

IEE Colloquium on Compact Power Sources, 1996
The principle fuel used to derive power from fuel cells has to date been hydrogen. Hydrogen is generated primarily by the reformation of hydrocarbon based feedstocks such as methane and methanol. Such generation immediately suggests a loss in efficiency in fuel utilisation as well as increased system cost. Thus the direct use of hydrocarbon based fuels

Sensors for direct methanol fuel cells

Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2014
Abstract A sensor can be used to enhance the performance of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). Sensors function as alarms for various problems encountered with DMFCs, of which methanol crossover is the primary problem. These sensors can significantly improve DMFC operation, thereby promoting the commercialisation of this product.

Electrode in direct methanol fuel cells

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2010
Abstract Nanotechnology has recently generated a lot of attention and high expectations not only in the academic community but also among investors, scientists and researchers in both government and industry sectors. Its unique capability to fabricate new structures at the atomic scale has already produced novel materials and devices with great ...
