Numerical simulation of direct shear test of sand considering rotational impedance

open access: yesShuili Shuiyun Gongcheng Xuebao, 2021
A series of sand direct shear numerical simulation tests were performed using the discrete element method, so as to investigate the inherent relation of meso-mechanics between the particle’s rotation-resistant capacity and the interaction of sands and ...

A Direct Shear Apparatus for Rheological Soil Testing

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 1963
SYNOPSIS A direct shear apparatus for determining the rheological properties of clay soil in simple shear is described. Tests on a remolded Kaolin show that the distribution of strain within the specimen is nearly uniform. The apparatus will be applicable to compacted or undisturbed cohesive soils.

Characterization of peak shear strength of rough rock joints using limited displacement multi-stage direct shear (LDMDS) tests [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
Current standard direct shear test methods for rock joints do not account for damage to the specimens' asperity profiles; tests require shearing of a single specimen to large displacements under successive normal stresses (the multistage test), or the ...

An Apparatus for In Situ Direct Shear Tests on Snow

open access: yesExperimental Techniques, 2016
The article presents a prototype of a new device for measuring the shear strength of snow specimens in situ. The resistance to sliding of a snow slab on a mountain slope is a key parameter in snow mechanics. The proposed apparatus acts as a sampler, to obtain a nearly undisturbed specimen, and as a shear box, similar to those used in the laboratory ...

Application of in situ direct shear device to shear strength measurement of rockfill materials

open access: yesWater Science and Engineering, 2009
A simplified in situ direct shear test (DST) was developed for measuring the shear strength of soils in fields. In this test, a latticed shearing frame replaces the upper half of the shear box used in the conventional direct shear box test.

Deterioration mechanism of loess from Ili valley region of China under wet and dry cycles: evidences from shear tests

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
The properties of loess in the Ili region of China are significantly affected by repeated cycles of rainfall and evaporation. It is thus essential to investigate the deterioration mechanism of loess subjected to the wet and dry cycles. This paper employs

Interface shear characteristics of dredger fill and concrete using large size direct shear test

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geo-Engineering, 2018
A large-size direct shear test was conducted to test the interface of dredger fill and concrete. The effect that concrete strength and the density of dredger fill have on the properties of interface is then analyzed.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON SHEAR STRENGTH OF MARINE CLAYS BY DIRECT SHEAR AND DIRECT SIMPLE SHEAR TESTS

open access: yesDoboku Gakkai Ronbunshu, 1998

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Study on Water Characteristic Curve and Shear Characteristics of Typical Unsaturated Silty Clay in Shaoxing

open access: yesGeofluids, 2021
In order to probe into one simplified method to predict the shear strength of Shaoxing unsaturated silty clay, the test method combining unsaturated soil consolidation instrument and conventional direct shear instrument is used to study the shear ...
