Direct Steam Generation (DSG) - Technology Overview [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Solar Energy Engineering, 2012
For the future market potential of parabolic trough power plants with direct steam generation (DSG), it is beneficial to integrate a thermal storage system. Heat storage media based on phase change materials offer heat transfer at constant temperatures needed for the evaporation process. Different options for a plant layout are presented and discussed.

Direct Steam Generation in Parabolic Trough Collectors

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2014
Existing commercial parabolic trough power plants use thermal oil as a heat transfer fluid, with working temperatures in the region of 400ºC. In order to achieve more efficient generating systems, a second generation of parabolic troughs that operate at temperatures higher than 400ºC is being developed.

Direct Steam Generation for Process Heat using Fresnel Collectors [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermal and Environmental Engineering, 2015
Industrial energy consumption represents one third of the total energy used worldwide, significant amount of which is thermal energy. This paper discusses the use of Fresnel collectors to provide saturated steam for process heat usage through Direct Steam Generation (DSG) which is a promising technology for introducing solar energy for industrial use ...

Model Predictive Control For Direct Steam Generation in Paraboloidal Dishes

open access: yesIFAC-PapersOnLine, 2018
Abstract The control of solar thermal systems is challenging due to the non-linear dynamic behaviour of the heat transfer process occurring at the receivers, such as direct steam generation. Model predictive controllers can outperform classical control approaches by incorporating nonlinear model behaviour and constraints.

Energy and Exergy (2E) Analysis of an Optimized Solar Field of Linear Fresnel Reflectors for a Conceptual Direct Steam Generation Power Plant

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Direct steam generation is a promising alternative to conventional heat transfer fluids for solar thermal power plants using linear concentrators because water and steam do not have thermal and chemical stability problems.

Buffer storage for direct steam generation [PDF]

open access: yesSolar Energy, 2006
Fast reaction times and high discharge rates make steam accumulators a promising option for compensation of fast transients in insolation for solarthermal systems using steam as working medium. Using the volume of components like separator drums or heat exchangers for storage of pressurized hot water is a cost-effective approach to integrate buffer ...
