Unloading of intercellular tension induces the directional translocation of PKCα
Journal of Cellular Physiology, 2018AbstractThe migration of endothelial cells (ECs) is closely associated with a Ca2+‐dependent protein, protein kinase Cα (PKCα). The disruption of intercellular adhesion by single‐cell wounding has been shown to induce the directional translocation of PKCα.

Tax‐and‐Transfer Tensions: Designing Direct Tax Structures [PDF]
Abstract Direct tax structures are regularly revised and debates over changes are heated. Taxes affect the behaviour of individuals and families in ways which are hard to predict, but which impose constraints on governments trying to achieve their objectives.

Prestressed Concrete Members in Direct Tension
Journal of the Structural Division, 1979At first glance the notion of using prestressed concrete in tension members is something of an enigma. Yet prestressed concrete can be used to take advantage of the strength of high tensile steel and produce members having any desired stiffness. Examples of applications are considered.

Tension and stress in the rat and rabbit stomach are location‐ and direction‐dependent
Neurogastroenterology & Motility, 2005Abstract Distension studies in the stomach are very common. It is assumed in pressure–volume (barostat) studies of tone and tension in the gastric fundus that the fundus is a sphere, i.e. that the tension in all directions is identical. However, the complex geometry of the stomach indicates a more complex mechanical behaviour.

Direct tension test of concrete
2010The measured tensile strength of concrete is dependent on the test method used. Compared with indirect methods, the direct tension test method gives results closer to the true tensile strength under pure tension condition. Herein, a new direct tension test method for prismatic specimens that uses bonded steel end plates to apply tension load to the ...

An Unconfined Direct Tension Test for Compacted Clays
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1974Abstract Although problems associated with total stress tension arise in soil structures such as earth embankments and multilayer pavements, no standard tension test for soils exists. An unconfined direct tension test, either strain controlled or load controlled, is described, which can be used to determine the tensile (total) stress ...

Composite Structures, 1998
Abstract The literature on single-bolt tension joints in structural grade pultruded GRP plate is reviewed and the differences between the main investigations are highlighted. Details are given of the test setup and the joint configurations used in a series 54 such tests on single-bolt joints in which the angle between the pultrusion and tension axes (

The Tension Between Direct Experience and Argument in Religion
Religious Studies, 1981There is an undercurrent to be detected in Anselm's record of the meditative experience that issued in the Ontological Argument and, although it points to a profound and perennial problem in the interpretation of religion, this undercurrent has been largely ignored.
